    4.0 out of 5 stars Game mode = No pop-ups!!! 31 Aug. 2012
    By The Truth TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
    Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
    When you think of Anti-Virus software you think of names like Norton, McAffe & AVG. But there are over 100 million users worldwide who think if another name - Avira.

    According to the packaging, that's the number of users who entrust the security of their PC and personal information to this brand worldwide, so why is that?

    Well I guess because it's not at all bad. It is fast (or rather, it doesn't slow your PC) and effective and boasts a host of features such as:

    * System scanner
    * Rootkit protection
    * AntiAd/Spyware potection
    * Anti spam filters
    * AntiBot capabilities (to prevent hackers taking over your machine)
    * Web protection
    * Mail protection
    * Anti Phishing protection
    * Firewall

    It also guards you PC in real-time runnng system scans - so that's detection and prevention covered but there's also repair. The Avira software also offers:

    * Generic repair, which automatically removes all traces of infection
    * System rescue, which 'jump starts' an unresponsive PC
    * System back up, which secures your data incase of accident, theft or infection

    You are also offered live support with interactive help from an Avira expert (although I haven't needed to call on this, I'm guessing it's one of the services where they take over your PC and control you pointer/cursor remotely) and child (or husband/boyfriend - buyers beware!) protection, which allows you to monitor internet use.

    Also, for all you gamers and COD fans out there, there's Game Mode - which, according to Avira, suspends unnecessary alerts during games and movies. That's a nice touch because the pop-ups on my McAffe and AVG anti virus software drove me nuts!

    This package offers you 4 licenses for the price of 3 for one whole year. I found the interface simple, clear and easy to navigate and I can see no reason not to recommend it as an alternative to the big boys.

    Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
    I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials to protect the two PCs in my house (my core 2 duo home office PC) and my son's Pentium 4 both of which are running Windows 7 32bit. Everything seemed fine until recently when I noticed some suspicious symptoms. Got the chance to order this Internet security package and so decided to give it a try. So far the only annoyance is that even tough a CD is supplied all it does is trigger the download of the actual package. On my rather slow broadband this took just under ten minutes on each PC. Once installed you have to reboot, so all in all not the smoothest set up experience but not a disaster.

    Now I had scanned both PCs with Security Essentials immediately before installing Avira and it has reported all clear. However Avira has found a number of addaware threats on both PCs, especially my sons. So so far Avira seems to be more effective than the Microsoft free option. I will update the review when I have had a chance to see if the suspicious symptoms disappear now hat Avira has cleaned these detected threats. A quick play with the computer seems to show none of the slow down that many Internet security packages cause, especially Norton.

    The above is my original review. I the installed it on my 64bit Windows 7 PC in my work office. The computer immediately became unstable. Even after uninstalling the package my PC has not fully recovered. It continues to work on my two home 32bit machines. However I have had to knock off two stars for the effect it had on my work machine.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product 3 July 2012
    By Ian Shine VINE VOICE
    Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
    I'm no techy, so I will keep it simple.
    This product is easy to install, doesn't slow down my computer, and so far seems to have done its job marvellously.
    It doesn't constantly pop messages up telling or asking me to do things, which is an annoyance I have found with other programs, such as Panda.

    3.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use 21 Jun. 2012
    By Mr. Philip Harkins VINE VOICE
    Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
    Easy to use, and install, with great auto updating settings, this covers your main online activities, and seems to do everything you could wish for in protection.
    Though not made my the big boys in the antivirus stable this actually seems to run a little faster, less resource hungry, more comprehensively as well as more intuitively than other security suites I've installed and used over the years.
    It's a great price too, especially when you consider its licensed for three machines.
    So, basically, if your in the market for new software, give this one a go, and i don't think you will be disappointed at all!

    4.0 out of 5 stars It Delivers! 13 Jun. 2012
    By A. Kwabula VINE VOICE
    Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
    I would not say it is at par with top notch security products from Norton, Kaspersky, F-Secure and McAfee. However Avira delivers adequate protection. Detection rates are good, as I do a lot of downloads at all times and Avira is able to alert me of blocked malware (Virus, Trojans etc). The most impressive thing is that it has far fewer false positives (flagging legitimate applications as malware) than even Kaspersky Internet Security 2012! The web protection works great and I have not noticed any noticeable impact on system resources.

    If you have used the free version, this one offers much more than what the free version offers such as: proactive protection, where the antivirus actively monitors application behaviour, anti-bots stops hackers, anti-spam, anti-phishing, a firewall and many more. You may also find the child protection feature very useful if you do not like the one that ships with Windows Vista/ 7. I personaly don't think it is necessary or even needed as the one in the OS is better.

    Avira Internet Security provides adequate security and is priced lower than the top security suites plus you get 4 licences.
