This second volume picks things up at West Coast Avengers #17, naturally enough right after the first Omnibus and still predominantly written by Steve Englehart and pencilled by Al Milgrom.
I won't reiterate the negative aspects of this series from Avengers: West Coast Avengers Omnibus (Marvel Omnibus), which if anything are more manifestly apparent over time. In fairness, there aren't as many typos and minor editorial glitches this time around and the series seems to have found its feet. But many other problems still persist; the characters are still resolutely Z-list (Dominus, Phantom Rider, Moon Knight, Gilla. Butte (as in bacon Buttie perhaps) Cactus (Really!), Zodiac (all of them *and* their Life Model Decoys - would anyone really notice the difference?) and the very limited art.

On the plus side there are surprisingly mature topics presented here; Pym's imminent suicide, Mockingbird's (off-camera) rape followed by her revenge (a clumsy murder which doesn't seem to bother anyone particularly) and (the power of) Firebird's unwavering faith. Ultimately however, there's only so long that mundane villains and dialogue such as "You are unimpressed with me, are you? You will be impressed - - and it will be your final impression!" can sustain a series. Even Al Milgrom's battle-move-for-every-occasion `double-arm hook/punch is still everywhere. Wondy vs Abomination should have been an awesome clash of the titans, but under Milgrom Abomination rashly opens with the 'Milgrom smash' while Wonder Man saves his for the closing salvo.

Englehart and Milgrom take the Avengers on a wild ride through time space and the Marvel Universe! 29 Nov 2014
By Mike Shehan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is perhaps my favorite all time Avengers epic. Its called the 'Cross-Time Caper' and spanned decades of Marvel history and continuity.Masterfully scripted and plotted by Avengers veteran Steve Englehart with underrated pencils by Al Milgrom , this multi issue collection is so much fun to read and encapsulates everything i love about the Avengers.
Also noteworthy here are the after shocks and effects of a few of the sub plots, which are referenced and used by writers today such as Brian Michael Bendis in many of his Avengers stories.Englehart had such an intangible gift for drawing me in with his unique use of quirky dialogue and writing style.I could almost recognize his scripting just as sure as i could tell you what artist drew which book.He struck a perfect balance in this story between the inter-dynamics of the team itself and each individual sub plot and back story that was happening. Then he concisely pulled the ribbons together and at the end a perfect bow of storytelling was achieved.I wont dare to spoil any of the myriad plot points or surprises here.

Admittedly, for Avengers novice readers, the back stories and references can be a little overwhelming. But Englehart knew this fact well and did his best to be succinct and as clear as possible when it came to the time traveling aspects of the story. This collection truly has it all.....time travel, betrayal, deadly danger, redemption, cosmic scope and scale, and a terrific use of underused characters like La Espirita and a new lease on life for Dr.Pym!I give this book my highest possible recommendation based on forty years of fanboy mania and love for all things Marvel.I was even blessed enough to thank Steve Englehart personally via e-mail and told him about my love and fascination with this particular story. He will always be associated with the Celestial Madonna arc and and his 70's Avengers stuff. But this story, along with his awesome Fantastic Four run in the 80's were my Lee/Kirby period.A fun rollicking and adventurous read for anyone who loves good old-school superhero stories and Earth's Mightiest Heroes....The Avengers!

I had never read the West Coast Avengers so getting Volume one and 2 was great. The stories were good and artwork was excellent.
