This movie had the potential to be outstanding with a promising villain that was menacing; something Marvel has lacked over its recent era of cinematic success. However, Ultron's laughable character in this is one of the many flaws next to it's severely underwritten love interest between Banner and Black Widow, the over the top 'banter' that doesn't come across as comical rather than annoying and at times cringey and perhaps the biggest complaint, the dull but loud action sequences that try to mask the audience for it being 'fun' when it is actually a very thin story line of 'lets blow up the world'. While not a disastrous film this is one of my most disappointing ones of all time.

Fantastic this is a true Big Screen Movie in the same mould of Star Wars and LotR
If you haven’t seen this on the big scream try too it looks Amazing
is it any good yes it is but with all group/gang/team movies some do better than others There are just so many characters in this film its hard to split the screen time
However some of the characters do have their own films so there for you do not need to make them centre stage captain America and particular Thor. How ever they did with Iron man and it works but not terribly well and so you have to look around for others who work
The Hawk eye stuff is fresh and friendly sort of PG safe and sweet, Black widow is (way too) dark and confusing (Black Widows story needs sorted out once and for all personal I think again Joss Whedon has got the writing of a Female lead way off)
Hulk well hulk is how can I say this centre to the plot but almost entirely secondary its strange
Of the new guys Quicksilver good but lost, Scarlet Witch (miscast) no physical presence lost on screen and script even in red, Vision nice idea plenty of possibility, Ultron wonderful a new movie baddie
Plot is a good rework of the story but centre stage switch I don’t get other than to keep the actor
Once again Scarlett Johansson is cut and pasted in and out of a movie (see winter soldier) not as obvious this time but (pregnancy in a superhero movie should be avoided) Don Cheadle and Anthony D. Mackie are blink and you miss them moments and seeing as they are their to replace certain people I don’t get why this is Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders are in but you will not remember why.Read more ›

Whilst Peyton Reed's 'Ant Man' marks the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU's) "Phase 2" series of films, 'Age of Ultron' is where all things Avengers related are closed off until "Phase 3" begins next Summer. This film also seems to mark the end of Joss Whedon's direct involvement in the MCU as 'Winter Soldier' directors Anthony & Joe Russo are marked to direct the final Avengers movie(s) as well as Captain America 3.
Is it a good MCU swan-song for Whedon though?
'Avengers: Age of Ultron' picks up after the events of 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier,' with the re-formed Avengers raiding a Hydra scientific facility glimpsed briefly during the credits of that movie. Troubled by events which unfold during the raid, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) begins to work on an Artificial Intelligence program called Ultron, which he hopes can protect the earth from intergalactic enemies such as those they fought at the climax of the first movie. Things do not go to plan, however, as Ultron quickly goes rogue and becomes the ultimate threat not only to the Avengers, but also to humanity and the Earth itself.
I really don't envy Joss Whedon's task here. This movie not only has to tell its own coherent story, it also has to pay off the nine Avengers related movies that have preceded it, as well as setting the stage for what's to follow. This means that this is a very 'busy' movie with a very large roster of characters to deal with, most of your favourites return here and you get quite a few new faces to boot.
The movie works hard to balance both the action and characters, to give everyone a chance to shine as well as giving a lot of focus to the new characters and those given short shrift in the first film such as Hawkeye.Read more ›

The much trumpeted fact that this is the 11th movie in Marvel’s current cycle reflects how the studio has cornered the market in event movies over the past few years, whilst simultaneously making us aware that the quality has to be maintained if the successes of the likes of Avengers Assemble and Guardians of the Galaxy are to continue. Fortunately, this movie’s mixture of humour and pyrotechnics – with a side order of romance – shows that Marvel can still knock audiences dead, although they’re going to have to do something a little different the next time they get the Avengers together, otherwise there is a danger that they will all merge into one superhero shebang. The introduction of Paul Bettany’s ‘Vision’ as a kind of superhero embodiment of Jarvis, Tony Stark’s super-computer was an interesting idea, unfortunately he quickly blended-in and just became another member of the team which was disappointing. I also felt that they could have done more with The Hulk, however these quibbles aside it was a satisfying and confident return for Joss Whedon’s heroes.
