Avatar
The widely-acclaimed film that ushered in a new generation of 3D filmmaking, it's unsurprising that, come its Blu-ray release, Avatar remains one of the finest proponents of the technology. Whilst the 3D obviously doesn't have quite the impact it had on a massive cinema screen, it nonetheless still works strikingly well on Blu-ray.

It's surprising, considering the number of films that have attempted to surpass Avatar's visual feats since it was released just how few have come close. Such is the standard of director James Cameron's visual work. Parts remain as jaw-dropping as they always were. The film itself smashed records on its release, and it's easy to see why. It's perhaps not the masterpiece it was initially proclaimed at, but this is intense, exhilarating blockbuster entertainment nonetheless. Ambitious, too. It's hard to think of too many other films that have so convincingly put across a fictional alien world as Avatar manages, and particularly in the intense final half hour, it looks simply glorious.

James Cameron is a notorious perfectionaist too when it comes to the presentation of his work, and this disc release is a real testament to that. The Blu-ray presentation is exquisite, and Avatar stands up as a reference disc. Not just on the visual side, either. The audio quality the Blu-ray offers is quite brilliant. It all adds up to a strong film, on one of the best discs on the market for a home cinema workout. --Jon Foster

Titanic
With eleven Oscars on its mantelpiece, star-making turns from Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, and a soundtrack that continues to sell, Titanic's place in movie history has long since been assured. However, director James Cameron, one of the biggest advocates of 3D technology, invested a heavy amount of time, resources and hard cash in adapting his hugely popular film. And this 3D release is the end result.

The film itself needs little introduction. Epic in ambition and scale, Titanic tells the story of the sole voyage of the infamous ship, focusing its story on a young couple from different walks of life. It's a feature whose merits have been vigorously debated since its release, but the consensus remains hugely positive. The spectacle alone, especially in this crystal-clear, effective 3D Blu-ray transfer, is something to behold. But there's both a compelling drama and a modern day disaster movie classic also mixed in.

The 3D Blu-ray Titanic is an example of how to present a film superbly well. --Jon Foster

own over 50 3D bluray, Avatar still holds it's place as one of the best 3D films ever made. The 3D effects are amazing second to none. Top demo material audio and video from start to finish. Avatar is the blue print for 3D movies, the way Die Hard was the blue print for action movies.

Titanic is the bench mark for converted 3D movies, an audio and visual treat from start to finish , with demo 3D material at it's very best. This movie is the blue print for converted 3D bluray movies.

Other top 3D demo movies Gravity [Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray] [2013] [Region Free] and Hugo (Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray) (2011).

I have watched both films at the cinema, But with my Samsung UE46F6500 - 46" 6 Series 3D LED TV - Smart TV - 1080p (FullHD) - chrome silver(UE46F6500SBXXU) with Samsung SSG-51002 Battery Operated 3D Active Glasses (Pack of 2) (New for 2013) and Samsung BD-F6500 Smart 3D Blu-ray/DVD Player, these films show the 3d effect better than the cinema, trying to watch the 2D version after seeing the 3D is a bit of a disappointment. I highly recommended these movies.

Okay, Avatar, what can be said that hasn't already been said?, box office smash, highest grossing film to date etc. I must admit I had seen it a few times in 2D on TV, and while I won't admit to being overly a fan of the film, it's worth a watch, personally I think, story wise at least, it's overrated, let's be blunt, it's not the most original film, think Pocahontas in space, but it IS worth a watch, very rarely does James Cameron disappoint. Now in 3D, yep same story, but visually it takes it to a whole new level, yes it IS that good. Many nay sayers are saying 3D TV is a "fad" that won't it last, all I can say is if you want an example of a decent 3D film this is it, the 3D is totally immersive, it just draws you in, graphically it is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen and worth every penny. Bear in mind that is from someone who is not the biggest fan of this film, so hopefully that will tell you something. (As an aside the box had the "Lenticular" artwork on it for those that are considering buying that version.)
Titanic. Now THIS blew me away. Obviously by now everyone knows the film in it's normal release, I was not quite sure what to expect from the 3D process here, bear in mind we are talking about a 1997 film, long before the current 3D film making began, and most post production 3D conversion is dodgy at best, but you certainly can't say that about this film. While not quite Avatar standards, the 3D is fantastic. The picture quality is everything you would expect of a quality Blu Ray conversion, and the sound is equally, wonderful. For a 17+ year old film this really did stun me, in a good way.
The final selling point for me was the price.

A great double bill and as others have said Titanic converts well to 3D. Avatar was of course filmed in 3D and it shows. Certainly this is excellent value and a recommended addition to ones library.
As a warning Avatar will not play on some players - this is a known problem and is probably something to do with DRM.

The greatest double feature of modern cinema, as others have said Titanic is glorious in 3D but Avatar is the ultimate 3D presentation, it's mind blowing, visually the most fantastic movie I've ever seen and the sound compliments the film in every way, this package is mega value for money don't hesitate to buy.

Loved both movies first time, even better in 3D. Avatar was filmed in 3D and it shows. Titanic is amazing in 3D.
