At first I was suckered into buying this game purely because of the A:TLA title, but like most things Avatar based that aren't directly influenced by Bryke, this falls hard and fast. This is the one flaw I find with some Avatar products is that, whilst the show covers various demographics (kids, teens, and young adults) as a product of Nickolodeon, this is only aimed at one: kids.

From the outset, you're introduced to some interesting ideas, such as focus moves (an old fashion QTE style screen), the ability to use Momo to scout for items, and leveling up in order to acquire new moves, all of which are a great concept for a game, yet they fall into a very dull routine.

Each level consists of some rather banal scouting missions, like finding pieces of wood, a flag, or pumpkins (a friggin' pumpkin?! HE'S THE AVATAR!) for various people, in order to gain experience points. Most of these quests you can skip, and really that's something I'd advise as they're incredibly tedious. Each level also includes a set of Momo items, which you have to activate the Momo mode, to find. Each level follows a very standard formula: find things, beat things up, and then a boss battle. The funny part being that, if at first you complete a load of missions/side quests and you gain a lot of experience, you can pretty much kill most things with one move.

What drives me mad about this game is that given the fact the creators had SUCH great source material, how could they possibly screw up a game this badly? Not only is it boring, but graphics are terrible and in no way represent the power of the PS2 (especially when compared to classics like Ratchet and Clank). The cutscenes are terrible, and toward the end I found that my copy of the game decided that the audio and visuals wouldn't sync.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bloody great!! 1 Jan. 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Well, to begin with its pretty dull coz aang can only do like 2 moves, but once you learn the others, and collect katara and hiru, it's awesome! it follows the story line pretty well, and you do all different stuff which combines general ps2 tasks with avatar stuff. its not a kids game, im 13 and I luuuurrrve it! The only thing I would say was that Aang can only air bend, but you've got katara who water bends and hiru (that guy in that episode where they see him earthbending and its forbidden in their village which is controlled by fire nation, he gets arrested for earthbending and put on this metal barge with other earth benders, including hirus father, vair good) can earthbend and saka can fight pretty well, and often ive been fighting people and I've seen saka almost like firebending! don't know whats going on there, but oh well!!
Yeah its an amazing game and heres a tip- when fighting in any person, press X all the time (which is fight) and eventually, the character will perform a superattack and kill EVERYONE! Enjoy this great game, have fun!!! Love you, Sam xxx =]
