Having filled multiple pages of A4 with names and dates I wanted a piece of software that would allow me to organise this information more easily. After an hour with Family Tree I decided that the best method is still to use A4 paper.

The input of names and relationships are limited in this software and end results are muddled.

You can either start your tree asscending or decending from an individual. I decided to start from myself and the first headache is that there is no option to add brothers or sisters. So after creating profiles for both my parents I added my brothers and sisters by linking them from my father with the add son/daughter option.

The end result is that if I sort asscending from myself it ignores my brothers and sisters, cousins, uncles, etc. and only takes direct blood roots. Hang on? This is Family Tree software not Family Stump? Another problem was that if I searched descending from my father it listed my brothers and sisters. However when I searched from my mother I became an only child. The end result is that I have to enter the information twice for both parents as the software can not automatically establish a link. At this point I decided to call it a day.

Overall this software is completely unsuitable for creating family trees and GSP should be ashamed of punting another inadequate piece of software. If you are serious (like myself) to record and document your family tree I reccomend one of the higher price pieces of software. Steer clear of all the GSP based products as alhough they alter in price they are all the same software.

GSP Family Tree 26 Dec 2003
By A Customer
The CD came with a book on how to research your family tree, but information about using the disc was zilch. You have to install the CD before you can get at the User's Manual, which is 44 pages long. Scrolling backwards and forwards through this whilst trying to follow the information it contained was trying, to say the least. The instructions in the manual also did not relate well to what you could see on screen. Frustration was bubbling up.
Far from being clear and easy to use, as per the manufacturer's comments, it was a case of trial and error. NOTHING seemed logical. An hour tinkering with the programme was enough to realise that it contained far too many problems and insonsistencies for easy and regular use, and has been consigned to the jumble sale pile.
