Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Three great Rome Total War games all in one!

Rome Total War

Storm clouds gather over Europe, Asia and North Africa as mighty armies march forward in Rome: Total War. Command the greatest forces of the ancient world, including the Roman Legions, Carthage and Gaul; lay siege to civilisations using powerful war engines; and decimate your enemies using special units like ferocious war dogs, armoured elephants or Scythed chariots. In Rome: Total War the most epic, cinematic real-time 3D battles ever seen in a game come to life with awe-inspiring graphics. Vast armies are led by brilliant generals such as Hannibal, leader of the Carthaginians and Julius Caesar, Rome's greatest general and leader. The mightiest armies and the most brilliant commanders of ancient times clash in an epic war game only Total War can create.

Alexander

An all new campaign map extends the Rome: Total War experience further Eastward than ever before, taking you into Macedonia and the Persian Empire. A host of new content includes four new factions and 60 all new units such as Alexander's Phalangists. Six new historical battles offer you the chance to experience Alexander's key clashes and a redesigned campaign game forces you to press ever onward or risk failing to match Alexander's ferocious pace of conquest.

Barbarian

A shadow falls across the Roman world. It is 363 AD and the last Emperor of the unified Rome is dead. His successors now rule a divided Empire. Beyond the frontiers of the sundered Empire new enemies are lurking. The barbarians are at the gates in this official expansion pack for Rome: Total War!

A brand new campaign game.
10 new playable factions - including the Huns, Franks, Saxons, Goths and both Roman Empires!
100+ new units with their own strengths, weapons and abilities, including Schiltrom and Shieldwall formations, swimming and axe-throwing.
Barbarian Hordes - march your entire people in search of a new homeland. You were there for Rome's glory. Be there for Rome's fall

    A true classic 23 Feb 2009
    Fun:
The review giving this only 2 stars is missing the point - Rome is a far more complex and intricate beast compared to the basic 'tank rush' strategies that generally can win the day in something like C&C.

To add to this you have the Civilization-esque conquest element to the game. To compare this game to something like C&C is like doing the same with an orange and tomato - both very nice if you like that kind of thing but in no way substitutes for one another!

I like both games incidentally however would say Rome:TW is a far more involving game. The more you put in, the more you'll enjoy it. The Alexander expansion is worth doing only after completing the original game. I found Barbarian Invasion not quite to my liking however that again, is personal taste - the game itself works well and adds a different perspective to those who are hungry for more.

At the current price, this is a bargain to get the complete Rome:TW set. Highly recommended.

    Rome Anthology 24 Nov 2009
    By M. Wood
    Fun:
Even though this game is now a few years old it is still a great game. The tutorial at the start of the game will give you a good grounding for the future battles to come. It's not just about the battles, though, there is also a large element of management to the game, in maintaining and building the cities you capture. Overall a fantastic game that will give you many weeks of play for reasonably small amount of cash.

Old game, but... 7 Nov 2009
    Fun:
This is really one of those games that has stood the test of time, so much so that there is still a live multiplayer community 5 uears after it was released. The graphics are not as bad as you may think, but looking past this it is a solid game with hours of replay value, trying out the different factions and game modes and that's just on the first disc! Barbarian acts as a full expansion with new factions and units whereas Alexander is for the hardcore Rome fan (definitely recomended that you play the other two games first). My only criticism is some odd moments of AI madness (such as where they run in circles around city walls) but otherwise a brilliant game for RTS gamers, even if you're not a fan of classical history.
