Tedious and slow 12 May 2007
By Edwardo
Since our 8 year old Granddaughter Mia has been struggling a little with maths we thought that this product (given it's title) might help. The previous, single, Amazon review was encouraging and the price was reasonable as well.

Pros:

The graphics, sound and animation are very good indeed with excellent attention to detail. The opening cartoon sequence which sets the story could be from a top quality movie

The required controls are simple and easily remembered

The game encourages use of drag and drop and is very good for improving mouse control

Cons:

This product is showing it's age and comes on two CDs rather than a single DVD

The picture occupies a reduced square in the centre of the screen so you need to sit pretty close

This is a game first and foremost with a few maths tasks built in - so that the mechanics of the game and the cleverness of the graphics make actually getting to any maths task unnecessarily tedious. It takes for ever to get to the first task.

The product needs an adult to put aside quite a lot of time to get a child into the swing of things. It's very frustrating trying to get the Mia character to obey your commands and eventually find one of the four maths tests.

We never completed disk one which I assume is necessary to allow you to use disk 2

So, if you have a great deal of patience and time available you might find this package useful.

Mia's Maths Magic 21 Mar 2007
Do you have a young girl in need of maths help?

As a parent of a 6 year old girl who was in need of a boost in maths before her KS1 SATs, I hid all the "pink princess" games and then had to find a suitable "educational" game to encourage her that maths could be fun. The cute girl mouse character, combined with excellent graphics and strong story line encourage her to enjoy maths. The game can be played at different levels and covers a wide range of curriculum maths. I can see why it has won so many awards.
