5.0 out of 5 stars Reader Rabbit Value Pack, 11 Dec 2006
By B. Sedgebear (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This pack of 5 CD's is simply great. We have been looking for a while for something to help our 6 year old in his Key Stage 1 study which would be both engaing and educational. This hit the spot and he loves to play it, we have to ration how long he is allowed to play.

The only gripe I had and a minor one, was that the Reading CD runs in a window rather than full screen like the others. The automatic level adjustment is simply brilliant and just as it gets to easy and starts to loose it's appeal, it ups the level and things get going again.

The price is also fantastic as a five pack, much better than getting them singularly. Funny thing is it does not come up when you search for Reader Rabbit on Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute garbage, doesn't work properly in XP, 21 Mar 2008
Do other searches on Google for the individual programs in this package and you'll see comments from many other users about problems using XP. GSP (the company who made these games) is gone, and support is non-existant from the new owners. I've tried running under compatibility mode, etc. Most won't install at all and generate .dll errors in the installation applications. Maybe if you have *exactly* the right version of DirectX, the right set of patches, some other Windows 95/98 programs that have already installed some ancient .dll's or whatever you may be able to get them to limp along. Save your money.

(Note that I can see another review saying it does work in XP. It doesn't work on any of our 3 PCs, all of which are completely updated with patches. Like I said, I'm sure there's some PCs on which it will happen to work, probably if they have installed some other old Windows 95/98 game which has installed some .dll libraries or an old version of Direct X or something. I did get one of them working after spending half a day tracking down some Windows 95 files that don't come with XP on which it appears to be dependent, my time is worth more than that. But it plainly does *not* work properly on Windows XP, it was never developed for XP - they've just later added XP to the list of supported operating systems, and it's not supported so the problems with XP will not be fixed. I stand by my original review. Who wants to buy a program to find out if they might be one of the lucky ones for whom it works?)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value pack and excellent learning aid, 27 Oct 2009
By R. Patel "Bush4ever" (Texas) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Where can I possibly start; on a execllent learning package; enjoyable adventure for children or just the fact that it keeps my kids busy for several hours.

The bottomline is the pack itself is thoroughly great. It bases the learning around the adventure the children will undertake. The pack will keep the children entertained upto age 8. It sates age 5-8 yrs. my son of 4 and he is more than able and he loves the starter CD and it teaches the children the right way, not some of the rubbish you get out there.

My son has been glued to the computer with the activities and on some of the harder stuff i assist him, that is the whole aim of learning, if they don't know then give them a "nudge" in the right direction.

Since playing the activities he has a better understanding of the games and i cn leave him to put words together and play the games and he now understands the concept behind some of the puzzles in the adventure.

He loves it and I have had relatives asking me where I brought it from as even there young children got into the adventure and loved the games, puzzles and activities. Also the game rewards for doing well and this in turn can be used within the adventure to get further.

What can I say..., the concept is great and as a learning tool it is simply brilliant.
