Windows update only worries about microsoft products and will over ride 3rd party software if it can. This program lets you keep everything else up to date without keeping lists and checking each week. It will do this without predatory tendencies and will remain impartial at all times. You can tinker without thinking too hard. Then again, the best way of all is 'if it aint broke don't fix it'.

The concept behind this product seems to be that if you update your antivirus and other programs, why not drivers as well? True to the promise made on the packaging, it did indeed find several updates for my computer, including sound and graphics drivers. However, it wasn't without compilations.
The first problem I encountered was that it tried to install the same version of some drivers over the top of the ones that were already there. This resulted in the update failing (not unsurprisingly!). Secondly, if it did find an actual update and installed it, it would sometimes suggest another update, only for this to be the older version!
Another problem I encountered was that some of the updates weren't related to the drivers I already had and so ended up installing additional software which didn't work with the hardware I already had.
Updating drivers can also be inherently risky. While I didn't have any problems as a result of updating, drivers can sometime become corrupted. Therefore, why risk messing around with them if they are working perfectly in the first place?
If you are happy to take a risk with updating drivers, or you are having problems with your existing drivers, then by all means, I would give this a go. (Although, as a precaution, I would recommend updating in sandbox mode so that any changes can be wiped). If you aren't suffering any problems and aren't confident with fixing any problems that result with the updates, then I'd leave this product well alone!

Driver Genius 10 installs quickly and easily but it will be essential to download any updates before working on updating any of the drivers. Some users will be adept enough to update drivers without this sort of package, but for many others, this makes life much easier. Simply scan your system, select the drivers to update and let Driver Genius do the rest. There may be one or two occasions where it is necessary to manually initiate the updates, but Driver Genius will open up the folder for you to do that. Some updates are fairly extensive and depending on how many updates need to happen, can tie your system up for some time. The interface is relatively easy to use, and so long as you backup your system before downloading and installing the new drivers, you shouldn't experience any problems.
