This album is phenomenal. It has all the subtle elements of a blockbuster, and I wonder if the state of the music industry wasn't what it is, if this album would have shipped platinum.
Michael Jackson's influence on the group goes without saying, but they use his influence creatively-- as a homage, not a duplication of Jackson's sound (as if that were possible). "Sea Salt", "It's Gonna Get You", and "Better Off'-- The chords, phrasing, tempo... early Michael. But if that is the source of inspiration, how can they possibly go wrong? Simple answer is-- they didn't.
This sh#@ is an amazing piece of work.
Robin Hannibal is a beast of a producer. Everything he touches is soulful and fantastic. His collab with Coco (the lead singer of Quadron) is like something out of a romance novel, musically. Those two are soulmates. So happy to be on the ride with them.
Don't be the person who discovered them on MTV five years from now. Buy it.
Then go back and get the first album. That's fire too.
