Love it, hate it. The version I own is in 'English'.
This book is so typical of the Siemens manuals I wonder if Hans Berger had a hand in their writing or translation as well. If you want to work with Siemens S7 PLCs and STEP 7 software you probably need this book. However, you will need a mortgage to buy it, it costs about 6 times what it is worth. (That's nothing, the software you need costs about about 6 times what it is worth too, and the starting price is a lot higher than the book).
I feel sure the author knows all there is to know about the products (hardware and software) but something is lost in the translation. You will need patience.
Having said that, the manuals for the products are SO BIG, SO MANY and contain SO LITTLE of the information you are searching for, that you need to gather as much information as possible, including HB's book. He has written several books on S7 / STEP 7 and there is CONSIDERABLE overlap so don't get conned into buying more books than you need (like I did). I don't think I have ever dealt with a company or a software package or a book that have been so frustrating and overpriced as this lot. However, if we have to work with the kit we need to know about it. There is very little else available. In his defence HB's book is better organised than the Siemens manuals.
If you haven't decided which PLC to use yet, try something American.
