Simply put, why do people slag this album off?? Loved it in 1989 and it sounds just as vital today, with some of their most notable songs ever in "Head On" (the Pixies covered that song on "Trompe Le Monde") and "Blues From A Gun". Maybe it was the drum machines?? If anything, that factor is what gives this album its unique flavour. In the liner notes, the Reids said the goal was to mix their noisy guitar pop with hiphop technology, as they were into rap music at the time...and ya know what?? It works, and if anything, it makes the album a fresh listen in 2012. This reissue, like the other 5 in the series, are essential and perfectly done, nothing left out...singles, EPs, B-sides, even the way-cool "Surfin' USA" 12-inch, and the DVD is icing on the cake with promo vidclips, TV appearances, live stuff, interviews, etc...the standard for all reissue programs...and the JAMC are BACK!! Seeing em in NYC, Sept 14th baby!! Forget the Smiths...the JAMC are they greatest band to emerge from the UK in the 80s all the way...and I stand by that statement!!
