Product Description

Product Description

For courses in Engineering Design and Computations, Introduction to Civil Engineering, and Autodesk Civil 3D.

Unique in approach, Autodesk Civil 3D offers an innovative blend of core civil engineering concepts and thorough Autodesk Civil 3D instruction. It moves beyond a how-to manual, to explain why the software produces specific results and how it can be used to solve specific civil engineering problems. Flexible in design, the book begins with an overview of the software and its interface, introduces a comprehensive design project and then covers advanced usage of each of the software’s capabilities. Ideal for both lecture and lab, the text uses screen shots, dialogue boxes, CAD images, and digital AutoCAD files to introduce the procedures and applications of Autodesk Civil 3D.

Very disappointing - @ $80, look for something else. 22 Sep 2007
By T. Krueger - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Although the book has great intentions, and the author takes the instructions beyond the usual "click this, now click that" level of software tutorial, I found myself very disappointed with it. First, and most importantly, the book is not teaching Civil 3D 2008. It's for an older version. I use 2008 in my workplace. I've followed the author's instructions to the letter on various exercises, and 2008 doesn't do what he says it will. Upon speaking with users of the older versions,it does work the way he says it will. Also, I found several typos, and other general mistakes. Again, the intent of this book is fantastic, but it falls WAY short of my expectations. Look for something else.

Autodesk Civil 3D: Procedures& Applications 2008 22 Oct 2007
By C. Hanna - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
As an intermediate level user of Civil 3D I found this book was somewhat disappointing. Good overview and introduction to various applications of Civil 3D but more for a beginer level. The end of chapter exercises and quiz is a good idea but nowhere can you find the quiz answers. I guess for the price I was expecting a more indepth manual for Civil 3D.

Autodesk Civil 3D: Procedures and Applications 2008 (Autodesk Design Institute Press) 31 May 2008
By Luisa Tascon De Hernandez - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Diagnostics: The information and Exercises described in this book, match with the Autodesk Civil 3D: 2008 Press), so bad for studying.
-------------
I'm in trouble because the exercises described in that book are from
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2007, and these and the toolbar and/or menu options of AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 are different, I wrote to the author comments that, so:
This issue and many others were updated in the new 2009 book - you might be better off returning 2008 and getting 2009. 2009 is a lot cleaner and I brought in another author to help me get it cleaned up.

Hello Mr Ward, I inform you that is impossible to continue studying your book called "AutoCAD Civil 3D 2008 Procedures and Applications", all the rest are the same I commented you before, I think You have to review the material before sell any book by marketplace from your company. I need you solve me that inconvenient.. I priced around U.S. $ 70.oo ... or my money back.

Hi Mr. Perez - you can disregard that function, they fixed it in this release - the create surface control label line was a way to control the vector that you strike across contours in order to label them. This works like a normal object now - it didn't used to. So just keep moving forward, just disregard that part about the surface control label line. I hope that helps.

Subject: Help from Bogotá Colombia
Dear Mr. Ward, my name is Orlando Pérez from Colombia, I have bought your book called "AutoCAD Civil 3d 2008 Procedures and Applications", at Amazon.com, I am trying follow the exercises you show for learning, I use AutoCAD Civil 3d 2008 in Spanish, The exercise 2-3 "Working with edit commands" page 42, doesn't function because the option you describe doesn't appear that you can see at picture I send you (jpg), the option CreateSurfCntrlLabelLine doesn't exist in the Application I have installed -- the last version. Please you can help me about this situation in order I could continue studying the book concerned.
Sincerely.
Orlando Perez Patiño.
Note: The exercises are saved in a previous version of 2008. The package shows that and it produces some features lost when one opens the files.
