Not very impressed by this book. I was expecting a DVD, which would have been useful for learning the important new features and setting up procedure whilst watching TV. But no DVD! I expected a polished production which would survive many years of thumbing similar to my previous experience with Wiley text books. But no, it was very disappointing on opening - looked and felt like some very cheap publication that you might expect from a third rate book club. I haven't got into the detail but have noticed the chapter on setting up AutoCAD is actually a download off the Wiley website. Why not chapter one in the book?

cant comment on the book yet ( see later ) but if it is half as good as its 2009 counterpart i will be well impressed. cant comment because i paid extra for fast delivery and after 5 days ( it was in stock and despached next day so not sellers fault i may add ) it still has not arrived. SO DONT PAY EXTRA FOR DELIVERY LOAD OF RUBBISH.

Book is as good as others i have read i would say get this one or any other by this author.

Doesn't hold a candle to the earlier versions of this-Great for beginners though 3 Oct. 2012

I have been working on CAD on and off since 02
I had bought the 2006 version of this book and it was my Holy Grail! I loved it!!
I left my job doing freelance CAD work for Architecture Firms in 2010 and just got back in the business. I am still navigating the new 2013 ribbon interface so I figured it would be worth the money to get a new version of this. Wrong
When I got it in the mail I was shocked at how little it was compared to the 06 version. I quickly found out why.
The book contains all CAD 101...If you have had any CAD class or training or even a few months of CAD experience, you know everything in this book. Anything more advanced is contained in the Bonous chapters. Where are the bonus chapters you ask? ONLINE, go to her website or the publishers website (This is what the book instructs you to do in the index) and follow the links to the bonus chapters. No you don't have to enter any info, its there for the general public or anyone. You don't have to purchase the book to access it.
There are plenty of online CAD reference points...I paid to have it in a book!
That being said,
I highly reccomend for beginners just learning CAD. It provides a very managable approach to what is an infinite options subject matter. My only grip is she doesn't list Hot Keys for commands :( You should learn that as you go.
And usually only tends to list one or two ways to carry out commands. They tend to be the long way

I am sad to see it go. Maybe they will go back to the old format of actually putting everything in the book.
Until then, I suggest you look somewhere else

For beginners only 28 July 2012
By kentium2000 - Published on Amazon.com

The author writes books for a living and has no experience working in drafting or design. She covers the basics well but picking it up and opening to a random chapter I found multiple areas where knowledge of actually using AuotCAD professionally would have yielded much more valuable instruction. I don't care for the font type used in the book either, it makes it much harder to read. I don't have the book with me now but when I do I will post examples.

Good to read while reading another guide 1 Feb. 2013
By Jimi - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I had already worked out something called 'introduction to Autocad 2013' which was good but it was meant to high school kids with not so exact approach, and that's why I really liked the Bible because it told everything that was possible, for example to change settings... I didn't love the book because the writer rather listens AutoCAD experts and writes but doesn't really herself know much about the program.

AutoCad 2013 Bible Review 5 Sept. 2012
By Tark - Published on Amazon.com

I have been using AutoCad since release 13, I was very impressed how your instructions are clear and concise. I especially enjoyed Bonus Chapter 3 on creating tool palette's, this is a great time saver where I placed all of my favorite commands on one tool palette and my blocks on another tool palette, this book is great, I use it for reference every day. Thank You.
Great Addition to My CAD Library 15 Jun. 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I love this addition and was sorry to hear that there will not be a 2014 addition. Each year AutoCAD had new features that Ellen Finkelstein clarifies in each edition. I will treasure this edition because of the information covered that is so helpful. The 2005 and 2006 editions got me through CAD online courses. I have been a follower of hers ever since. The 2013 edition helped me get a better handle on "Customizing the Ribbons and Menus." I planned to use a floor plan for the cover of my next book done in AutoCAD 2013. I have used this book to assist me in getting the drawings set-up for my cover. I also plan to acknowledged this book as a source for the cover artwork.

I suggest beginners, intermediate and experts buy this book. Even if you don't want to have it on your shelf, get it on Kindle.
