I'm planning a trip to both Australia and New Zealnd, and this was the only book I could find that had them both in the same book - saves all that extra weight in the luggage. It's a good, comprehensive guide listing most of the popular travel destinations as well as some off the beaten track. There are plenty of maps - especially of the major cities, with close up maps of key areas within the cities.

The book has guides for each place: eating, drinking, sleeping, sightseeing, how to get there, how to get around etc. It's got a lot of web addresses so you can do further research if you need to.

The book is aimed at people travelling on the cheap so is full of useful advice and tips. I thought this guide was an excellent buy.

This is a really good book if your going travelling on a low budget . Its very informative
it gives you information on low budget accommodation, places to visit and much much more.
Everything you would want to know about a country when your travelling.
It also gives you usefull telephone numbers for accommodation so that you can phone in advance to book your accommodation. It also gives you insight in to customs and cultures
of the country which is also very usefull and would recommend to anyone who is going travelling.

Reading this guide convinced me to do the trip 28 May 2009

Typical Lonely Planet fare: puts a wide range of sights/activities covering all budgets into succinct pieces without overdoing the tourist spots. The combo AUS/NZ is ideal if you're spending a month or less down under hopping to various locales and don't need all the details of separate guidebooks for each country. The suggestions of this version were all current (as of Jan 08). This book will even steer you to the unique spots and from there you can hit up the locals for more input. If spending greater than a week in any particular city, I'd augment w/ separate city guidebook.

A great choice 3 Jan 2007

It's a great book. It is very complete and very accurate, most of the times.

I didn't gave it 5 stars because sometimes it isn't very easy to find the information.

I recommend it.

Not Very Dependable 6 Oct 2007

I bought this book to help plan a month and a half long trip to New Zealand and Australia staying mostly in hostels. I cannot recommend this book for a reliable source of information for hostels or restaurants. Most restaurants I have tried to find no longer exist. The hostel and attraction prices are wrong (of course these are subject to change), however, the recommended hostels have been hit or miss. There have been some good ones as recommended by the book (Sydney Central YHA, Old Countryhouse in Christchurch, NZ) but there have been some disgustingly unclean (Bondi Beach YHA) and unlivable (Global Palace) recommended highly by this book. I think that a better source of information would be customer reviews on the internet.
