5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Thorough 27 Mar 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased the Lonely Planet guide to Australia ahead of an upcoming backpacking trip to Australia on the recomendation of friends. This is not the first time I'm going so I already I have an idea of what to expect- though this time I am going going to area I have not yet been. Having had time to familiarise myself with the book prior to the trip I can honestly say this is by far the most concise travel guide I have yet read (and I have read a few). It provides solid information for anybody going down under- wether you're a tourist, a student, a backpacker or planning to emmigrate. There is information on just about everything you can think of- not just the places but also travel inside Oz, the culture, visas, safety and lots of other information to help you get by. On top of all that it is also extremely well written- easy to understand, sometimes witty and generally a very good read. I cannot recomend this guide enough.

3.0 out of 5 stars could be a lot better 27 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am new to kindle books and it looks like lonely planet are too. At least they have done a kindle version despite it being pretty expensive. I am finding it difficult to navigate my way around the book so I would be grateful for any tips. There is a main menu which I found once but because I did not page mark it or highlight the title which works better I don't know how to get back to it. I have now highlighted most of the sections that I am interested in so that I can go back and find my way around. The maps are poor because they are so small and not easy to read. It appears that they can be expanded once but a lot of them need to be expanded again. It would be good to show each resturant on a map so that it is easy to find them similar to how they do it in trip advisor at least they should give a good address insted of relying on the customer finding it on google. I don't think that my kindle can browse the internet. Having the kindle book should be so much lighter to carry around than the paper back version so I am hoping for more success as I get more familiar.

4.0 out of 5 stars Big country: big book! 9 April 2012
By Jules
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having decided to vitit Oz in 2015, I knew I needed a book to help me plan my trip since there's so much to think about and some hints about where to start were essential. This book is big and packed with information; it's got masses of things I expected as well as some things to consider that I hadn't thought about. I'm so glad I've given myself plenty of time to go through this book a few times to get a feel for the big picture before I get down to the details. It's already helped me to plan a realistic savings and budget plan, and to be focused about what I can and can't expect to fit into my trip. I hope this book will be well tatty by the time I go and it'll be with me as my guide while I'm out there. I would recommend this book to anyone planning a trip.
