Product Description

Product Description

The models created by Donald Healey and son Geoffrey played a key role in establishing Britain as the world's leading producer of sports cars in the 1950s and 1960s. But the cheeky little Austin-Healey Sprite and the rugged 'Big Healey' with its muscular good looks are only part of a fascinating story that stretches back to the glory days of pre-war rallying and ends with the ill-fated Jensen-Healey. All this and more is told in the latest title in Haynes' acclaimed "Classic Makes" series - along with practical guidance in the form of driving impressions and buying hints, based on the author's personal experience of most of the cars featured.

Austin Healey: The bulldog breed 27 April 2012
By BB - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
As the original owner of a 3000 MKII BN7, the rather rare two seater, three carb North American car, I demonstrate a certain affinity for these cars. And also this book. While there are already plenty of excellent volumes covering Healeys, this one really does go a long way toward "filling in the blanks". The very early Healey efforts, show cars, and one-offs receive more than their fair share of pages. And that is my only-slight disappointment. A little more coverage of the standard production cars ( there were a "few" LHD cars!) would provide a bit more balance and give me a reason to give the rating another star. That extra coverage would go a long way toward making this book the "definitive book on Austin Healey". Still, the collection of rare photos, excellent tips and side-bars make it a "must have" to any fan of these machines.
