More About the Author

I'm a keen enthusiast of historic housekeeping techniques and recipes, and as you would see if you came around to my house, I have been collecting home management manuals and information for years. (This all started when my grandmother gave me her old school domestic science text book from the 1920s). I've experience running homes small and large, ranging from a small housing association flat to a stately home. Consequently there's not much I can't tell you about how to achieve domestic bliss, regardless of your budget or the amount of time you have to spend on it as a project. I'm also a mother of four children ranging in age from 3 to 25. When I am not writing my blog at http://www.austerityhousekeeping.wordpress.com and related books and articles, I have a full time job as a Senior Lecturer in Education at one of the UK's top universities.

Clear concise advice about how to run a home by an author who obviously speaks from experience, all the advice is practical and easy to do in your own home.

I would recommend this book to anyone starting out in their own home or who wants to live well but not spend a fortune. I particularly liked the recipes used, they used ingredients I actually have in my cupboards for a change.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smart Housekeeping! 12 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
In these straitened times we need all the help we can get, and the hints and tips in this book present household economy not as an exercise in privation and frugality; rather, an opportunity for creativity and using what we have to its best advantage. And it's not at all 'bleak times'! It's written with humour and wit, and a genuine enthusiasm for enjoying the best, and simplest, things in life. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short and sweet 12 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a very useful book for the first time man or woman trying to manage a house and a budget. Even for us oldies there were some good tips to be had. I will never be as organised as Ms B obviously is, but I suppose I can always aspire!

Surprisingly derivative and remarkably patronising. It's a good thing this was offered free as I would have regretted spending money on this.
