Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Simon Greenaway and Sacha Collinson have come a long way since their acid jazz tinged outings as Think Twice, with their Aurora project having touched the widest audience care of a carefully chosen cover of Duran Duran's 1993 hit "Ordinary World" and their own thumping balaeric tearer "Hear You Calling". Perhaps surprisingly, the pair play down these dance credentials in this, their debut full-length, choosing to lean more towards pop--a pre-album live session for Radio 2 reinforcing the success of this inclusive approach. As such, singles "The Day It Rained Forever" and "Hear You Calling" take on down-tempo incarnations--both of which blend incongruously with the rest of the album. New addition Lizzy Pattinson proves a competent vocalist, belting the ballads with plenty of gusto, but finds herself upstaged by the guest contributions of Marcella Detroit who provides the most memorable track on the album. Ironically, considering the bands early work, this takes the form of a cover--Detroit's voice soaring above a reproduction of Gordon Lightfoot's morose "If You Could Read My Mind". --Kingsley Marshall

Stunning! 19 July 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I bought this album for my wife and she hasn't stopped playing it yet!! It's played all night, every night and she won't leave the house without it! She rates 'This can't be love' and 'Your mistake' as probably the best on the album. However, Marcella Detroits (good to have her back - more next time??)version of 'If you could read my mind' is sublime. 'The day it rained forever' sets your heart racing - it's a fantastic song and she feels their best single release to date. There are echos of Robert Miles and Olive on this album, but it is still autonomous in it's originality. Buy this album, you will not be disappointed. Beautiful lyrics sung by beautiful voices accompanied by beautiful music.

Brilliant! 19 July 2002
Format:Audio CD
I bought this album today... and it is easily one of the best CDs in my collection. (And I have about 100 CDs).
I must say I was quick to judge this album when I heard it on the official Aurora website. After hearing the singles 'Hear You Calling' and 'Ordinary World', I was expecting it to be mostly a dance/club CD. Yes, there are a few dance tracks on here, including the recent single 'The Day It Rained Forever' - a brilliant track which is a highlight for me. (It should of done better than number 29 in the charts). In fact, the album versions for 'Hear You Calling' and 'Ordinary World' are more down tempo, acoustic efforts, which the album does reflect.
Despite some of the album being more down-tempo, that is not to say it is a bad thing - I could honestly say there isn't a filler track on there. The CD has pop tracks, like the cover of 'If You Could Read My Mind', and chilled trip-hop sounds that can be heard on 'Your Mistake', something that could be compared to Morcheeba. There is also a fair share of dance tracks - which will please those people who liked the first two singles. Stand out tracks for me are 'The Day It Rained Forever' and 'To Die For'.
Although I had heard most of the songs on the internet, the quality through a CD player is far better, and there are many elements I didn't notice before.
If you are considering buying this album - get it now! Add it to your shopping basket and you won't be dissappointed.

First of all, don't get confused; this is NOT the Christian sisters group called Aurora, this is a completely different band. Since they're UK-based, I decided I'd refer to them as Aurora UK to avoid the confusion. Anyway, this is no doubt the most beautiful music I have ever heard! Of course, I discovered this group completely by accident when I was searching for the other Aurora group, and I'm not sure what made me want to check them out. I guess I was just curious to see what they were like, since I couldn't search for the other Aurora without coming up with search results for this one. The music on this CD is totally unique, dreamy, beautiful, and, well, amazing! I honestly had a hard time describing the genre for it all. Anyway, let me review some of the songs...

Dreaming: Very great opener! The acoustic guitar gives it a very nice effect. One of the best mainstream pop-songs I've ever heard!

The Day It Rained Forever: Absolutely BEAUTIFUL track! The title is a bit odd, but the song has such a great feel to it. This one gets up with the first dance beat, while the previous track had regular drums. Lizzy's vocals are beautiful!

Ordinary World: This is a slower one, and it's an interesting one too, but it's still very pretty! Originally a Duran Duran song.

Your Mistake: This one kicks up a bit (with regular drums again) after the previous track. Very beautiful sound! Lizzy sounds great with the vocals again!

Hushabye: Here, we go slow again, but this is no doubt one of the most beautiful songs on the album! The lyrics have a bit of a lullaby-type of feel, but they don't have any non-sense! Very, very beautiful song. Something that can kind of make you drift peacefully off to sleep.

In My Skin: Now the dance beat comes back! VERY lovely song. The vocals and tune are just beautiful! It's one of those songs where you feel sort of like your floating away somewhere if you close your eyes. Great rhythm.

This Can't Be Love: Another VERY beautiful song!! There's still a dance beat, but don't let that drive you away if you don't like dance beats. The piano is great, and the vocals are beautiful again!

If You Could Read My Mind: Now we slow down again. It's a pretty song, but not my favorite.

To Die For: This one "makes up" for the previous track. It has very pretty guitar chords, and great vocals! Very nice song.

Hear You Calling: Absolutely one of the best Aurora UK songs! It's so beautiful and the lyrics are really deep. Great guitar and vocals again! Perfect closing for the album. Highly recommended!

Well, that wraps it up for my review of Dreaming. I'm not really sure what the people from Aurora UK are up to these days, because all their singles and CDs came out in 2002 and I've never heard anything else from them, so they're CDs are very hard to find. This CD is so awesome, it just makes me wish I had a Simon Mall gift card in my hand so I could use it to buy this online!

Well I like it!

Marcella Detroit's contribution makes this album a gem
For the most part, this is a typical pop album. What makes it unique are tracks 8 and 9, featuring Marcella Detroit (former Shakespears Sister) on lead vocals. Read more

Aurora go all 'Tin-Tin Out'

Disappointing...
If you expect a good trance album from Aurora, you will be very disappointed. The group behind the wonderful "Hear you calling" had made an album with mediocre pop music.

What happened to the dance music?
After hearing the dance hits 'Hear You Calling' and 'Ordinary World', I took a listen to this. To my surprise, the style seems to have changed completely. Read more
