We recently replaced all of our lightbulbs with LED bulbs. These LEDs use a fraction of the amount of electricity than conventional lightbulbs, which is also reflected in our electricity bill! When selecting small LED bulb replacements I have found from expearience that the surface mounted type (SMLED)are better than other types. These SMLEDs are normally yellow, but emit warm white light. A word about selecting LED bulbs : Check out KELVIN on Wikpedia or Google, it is basicly the bulb`s colour temperatur, warm (yellowish/white) which is most popular for indoor applications is around 2700 KELVIN, for outside applictions a higher 5000+ KELVIN is mostly used. Also the ability for the lamp to define colours (colour rendering) is important, the higher the better with 85 being the best. Finally, be sure to check the lumens-to-watts ratio -the greater the lumens-to-watts ratio, the more energy efficiency the bulb provides. You can determine this ratio yourself by dividing the lumens produced by the amount of watts the bulb requires.

I bought this to replace a G4 10w halogen capsule in a table lamp. It's LED so it has the advantage of generating less heat, using less energy and therefore saving money. The colour tone is very slightly cooler than the halogen but I prefer it this way.

It's possible LED technology may not currently allow this bulb to be any smaller in size, however, I thought I would note that it is NOT the same size as a G4 halogen capsule. If it was, I would have been able to purchase over 10 of these to put in my ceiling fixture but the bulb is too wide to fit in. For that reason I am disappointed. But it does not claim anywhere to be identical in size to the G4 halogen capsule and the seller does list the size dimensions so i've given it 4 stars because it works very well in my table lamp. Hopefully in the near future LED G4 capsules will become available which are identical in size to a halogen one.

To conclude, if you want to replace a 10w GU4 halogen capsule, then buy this. Just make sure it will fit in your fixture!

The spot lights in the room had 2 x 10W incandescent bulbs. Fitting these LED ones gave pretty much the same amount of light with only 1/10 of the energy consumption.
With the amount of light it was producing I thought it was unlikely that it was consuming only 1W so I measured it.
It was really consuming only 0.08A at 12.6V which was great!
It doesn't waste any energy into producing heat.
Now I can keep the whole boat lit up whilst consuming the same amount of energy as only 1 bulb I had before.
Highly recommended

I bought these to replace G4 halogen bulbs in my caravan and they are excellent. The halogen bulbs became extremely hot and at one point the made the cover of a book left under the smoke. These LED bulbs have cured that problem. Thoroughly recommended

I have spent some time reading up on LED lighting technology and I am keen to start using it within my house and caravan. It was my intention to change all my caravan lights to LED to increase battery life and reduce the heat output of the reading lights which are surprising close to your head, however, fate intervened when 3 bulbs in my IKEA lamp in the house went. I only had two replacement G4 bulbs so I decided to road test my first ever LED bulb.

It arrived in excellent time and was well packaged. I put in the lamp immediately and it inserted with no problem. The lamp has "ice cube" shaped glass shades and the space for the bulbs is small so I was aware that this may present a problem, however, the LED bulb is only marginally wider than the halogen it replaced and is taller by about 3 mm but it remained well within the shade.

The light colour is whiter than the other bulbs, but not so much that it stands out or looks silly against the halogens. The colour is white and not blue, and the throw of the light seems to be similar to the bulbs surrounding it. The only difference is that the halogens throw a little circle onto the ceiling and the LED does not, I guess this is because there is an LED cell on top. The amount of light is similar also and looking at the lamp it does not appear brighter or duller than the surrounding bulbs. As I recall there are 20W bulbs in all the other slots.

I will be replacing all the halogens in lamp (and its sister lamp) with this type of bulb and I will do so as they expire, which is fairly regularly. Only time will tell how long the LED will last - I expect them to stay in this house longer than I do though!

Our existing lamp used 8 x 20w halogen bulbs which have now been replaced by these LEDs. While the light level is a little lower it is still more than sufficient and, knowing how much we use the lamp, I calculate we'll be in proft after roughly 4 years. That should see us saving money for many years if the expected life span turns out to be accurate. Fitting the bulbs was easy (they are slightly wider than the halgen capsules so I put the shades on first and then inserted the bulbs) and the light produced is pleasantly warm.

A year back we ordered Led bulbs from three different suppliers on Amazon as we were unsure how they would turn out. These were the best, being bright enough to replace the 10w halogens we use on the boat. One did fail after a few months but it was replaced free of charge and without question and we subsequently ordered 3 more to replace those that didn't come up to expectations from other suppliers. For their size they are very bright. We wouldn't fail to reccomend these bulbs but would suggest using a voltage stabilizer as our charging voltage can be around 14.6v which may or may not cause a problem.
