Product Description

August 7 inch PD712A is an all-in-one media player, it has both analogue and Freeview tuner, which enables you to watch over 40 channels without an external Freeview box. A multiregion DVD player with card reader and USB port built-in, it supports varies formats, such as DVD, VCD, SVCD, MPEG-4, MP3, JPEG, etc. With the built-in and replaceable rechargeable battery, smart and lightweight design, it can be used as a truly portable TV and DVD player around the house or entertaining children on holidays.

Please note that there may be difficulty to receive Freeview TV signal by the included portable antenna in some areas where the signal is not sufficiently strong. This is due to that the Freeview service (www.freeview.co.uk) in the UK does not fully support portable TV antenna at present. The reception will be improving along with the progress of Digital Switchover Program (http://www.digitaltelevision.gov.uk). A signal amplifier or booster may improve reception capability in regions where the signal is marginally strong. (Please note that reception capability may also be affected by various factors such as proximity to Freeview TV/digital radio transmitters, tall building structures, thick walls, ceilings and etc.). A rooftop TV aerial may be required to watch Freeview channels in regions where the signal is insufficient for a portable antenna.

Bought this as a Christmas present for husband to replace a small analogue handeld TV that will become redundant with the digital switchover. Great quality device, picture is crystal clear and with a simple to use DVD. By plugging it in to a good indoor ariel, when using it for the first time, we were able to set up ALL the freeview channels available (we do live in SE London where signals are good and don't need to use a roof ariel for Freeview). Most channels also work inside the house with the mini ariel supplied; the odd one or two are a bit fuzzy or unavailable. Well made device, simple to use, closes up to the size a hardback book, wouldn't want anything bigger; really pleased with this purchase

Better than expected! 30 Sep 2008

We bought this dvd player to keep our Ben entertained on long journeys in the car, and we are very pleased with it. The picture quality is brilliant, so does the sound, but better sound quality when using the earphone jack. The multiregion feature plays discs we brought back from States and it plays Dvix format and recorded discs.

The built-in TV function is a good extra to have which means Ben can watch his program and we can watch ours on the big tv. The remote control is very handy, very easy to select playing discs or watching tv.

Using the given aerial it picked up about 30 Freeview and four analogue channels, however this only worked in upstairs rooms within the house. Fixing to an ordinary roof aerial solved this problem, and easily picked up all the Freeview channels and radio.

The built-in rechargeable battery only supports 2 hours playback which is not so brilliant but is ok for us, as it can be run using the supplied car adaptor from the cigarette lighter so no worries about the battery going flat.

It is a shame this device doesn't come with a carry case. But over all very pleased with what it offers and very good value for money.

I bought this because I spend a lot of Sundays away from home and miss the F1 races.
It is a compact lightweight player and reassuringly sturdy.
The picture quality is first class. Clear, sharp and bright. The sound quality is excellent both with and without the earphones.
As yet I've not had the chance to try the Freeview TV but having the analogue TV as well is a great advantage and I am now able to watch the F1 races and indeed anything else I choose.
I am looking forward to trying all the other features.
I had cause to contact August with a query and the service I received from them was second to none.
All in all this has been a 100% all round experience.
