This portable TV from August is the recently upgraded version of their ever popular 7" Television. Small enough to take anywhere it offers the following new and enhanced features:
- Screen resolution increased to 800x480 pixels from 480x230 for crystal clear definition
- Now supporting the advanced H.264/MPEG4 TV standard for smoother, higher quality reception. Also compatible with MPEG2 standard
- The capacity of the internal rechargeable battery has been increased to 2200mAh from 1800mAh, meaning you can now watch Freeview on the go for up to 3.5 hours whilst travelling at speeds of up to 70mph
- Now capable of reception at high speed; watch TV whilst travelling at 70mph
- Powered antenna socket outputs DC5V, enabling the use of certain amplified aerials, such as the August DTA225 and DTA245, without a separate power source
- New slim, stylish and lightweight design, now just 441 grams and only 202x136x20.4mm
- Power adaptor is now multi-region, compatible with both UK and European sockets
- Now designed for easy wall mounting, use the August BKT700 (sold separately)
- Instruction manual now provided in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian.
Please Note: Freeview reception is dependent upon signal strength, in some areas the provided portable aerial will not be sufficient for television viewing. In these areas connecting to a rooftop or amplified aerial may enable Freeview reception.

Amazon Verified Purchase
After all the discussion about signal strength in these reviews, I had a few reservations about this product, but in the end decided to chance it and buy one anyway. Not wanting to use the rooftop aerial with it for normal viewing, I bought the SLX Gold digiTop indoor aerial as well. (I live 16 miles from our local transmitter in Hannington).
The box initialised well from the rooftop aerial (as recommended in the instructions). I then disconnected it, and tried it out in a first floor bedroom with various indoor aerials. The results were:
* using the telescopic aerial - nothing
* using the wire aerial supplied - the occasional locked picture, but pretty well unusable
* using the SLX with maximum gain - pretty good, with a clear steady picture. But the SLX needed careful alignment, and also needs a mains supply: yet another little power supply block to plug in and connect.
* I actually got best results from an old traditional design indoor aerial - no power needed. (This aerial looks like a cut down version of a rooftop aerial)
So, if you are prepared to experiment a bit, you may be able to use an indoor aerial with this tv. If it works for you, you will be rewarded with a clear, surprisingly sharp picture and very good sound, if you listen with a good pair of headphones. Playing video clips (avi) and mp3 files also produced excellent results.
All in all, a versatile and good quality product at a very reasonable price. But why, oh why, is the instruction manual so poorly laid out and confusing?!!!

I have been looking for this type of TV for long time, and this one meets all my requirements. It receives both analogue and freeview TV channels. I can watch freeview TV in perfect quality where I live and still enjoy the analogue TV at the caravan site where the freeview signal is not so good. The built-in battery offers freedom to take the TV anywhere I want, so I won't miss the nice sunshine and fresh air in the garden. My husband loves it too and we plan to take it with us when we have holiday in Spain.
