Product Description

The DTA245 aerial from August, the portable digital television specialists, is an aerial designed specifically for digital reception. With a standard coaxial connection, it can be easily used with almost any portable or living room television set.

With a USB powered amplifier, it is ideal for USB TV Tuners, as you can simply plug it into a spare USB port to benefit from amplified reception without having to find a plug socket. This also makes it great for portable TVs and multimedia players with USB ports giving you optimal reception when you are on the go. For bedroom, kitchen and living room sets, the August UMC502 (sold separately) USB plug adaptor can be used when a USB port is not available.

Capable of receiving frequencies of VHF 170-230MHz and UHF 470-869MHz it is ideal for both digital Freeview and DAB broadcasting. Whether you are looking for an aerial for your bedroom, kitchen, caravan, boat or car, the DTA245 will greatly improve your reception in almost any circumstance.

Please Note: DTV reception is dependent upon environmental factors, we cannot guarantee reception in all conditions. For more information, please consult the Freeview website.

New product supplied retail packaged with 12 month warranty.

Having tried set-top aerials in the past with zero success I was sceptical despite good reviews. We live on the boundary between East and West Midlands transmitters so signals tend to be poor. Brilliant! Our second TV is now useable in any room in the house, and receives all Freeview channels with perfect reception. One word of advice: the USB port on our TV does not deliver enough current to power the signal booster, but this was easily resolved using a mains powered USB adapter, about £2.50 from Amazon. Happy days.

I have tried several indoor aerials in the past with varying degrees of success; mostly none at all. This just works. Excellent little aerial. I use it indoors in a weak signal area and just to make life harder for it I put it downstairs on the opposite side of the house to the transmitter. It doesn't find every station but it gets all the main ones and with little or no interference except when someone stands in the way of the signal. It just begs the question: if these people can produce a working indoor aerial why does everybody else have such trouble doing so.

I have a VW T4 camper and have tried so many different types of aerials to receive freeview tv. I came across this one and thought at that price it cant be that good but will try it. Well how wrong was I? Its very well built, has a nice heavy feel to it and best of all, receives freeview in my driveway where all others have failed. My tv has a usb port so the aerial amp plugged straight into it. The signal strength bars on the tv all showed 3/4 plus and I sat in my van and watched a film all the way through with no loss of signal.
My only wine is that for me the aerial cable could have been a little longer but I do have a camper and the roof is a little higher than a car. Top Marks from me.

Having done my research and read so much about August aerials, I decided to spend a few quid extra on one of their dearer models to use with my new Sony portable DVD/Freeview player. Thought I could go wrong considering the cheaper models were getting top marks.

Seriously disappointed with its performance. Tried it in several different locations in my house (just outside Glasgow) and across west central Scotland. Absolutely nothing. We get a pretty decent Freeview signal at home using our loft mounted aerial but the August aerial didn't find one Freeview channel on the Sony DVD/Freeview player. Then tried it stationary in two other locations in Ayrshire (re-scanning several times) but nothing. Also tried it on the move in the car (long shot I know) between Glasgow and Ayr, and again not a bean!

Thinking it could be the DVD player, I looked out an old non-amplified portable aerial that I use when visiting the Western Isles which I bought from Tesco for £7 about 10 years ago. Picked up every Freeview channel possible in all three locations!

The August aerial is going back, unless I'm missing something and someone can share any tips..........

..... but on the strength of the reviews on here I bought one hoping to be proved wrong. Unfortunately I wasn't.
I used my main aerial to scan the channels into my portable LCD TV (all in at 100%) and switched over to the August DTA245 to test it. At best all I could pick up was a couple of very distorted channels and absolutely nothing at all with the usb unplugged (proving that the amplifier at least does something). I then tried several times to let it tune to the stations itself - again to no avail. I tried it all over the house and even outside with identical results. Finally I took it out to my motorhome (the reason I bought this) and still was unable to pick up anything watchable. I then tried an ugly old unpowered traditional indoor style one I have to compare it with and after a bit of wiggling about it was able to get an improved signal on most channels than the August DTA245 although most still suffered a degree of signal breakup.
I really wish I could have added a 5 star review for this bit of kit but unfortunately I'm one of those for whom it did nothing. Return to sender.

I was hoping to take this camping. I tried it at home by replacing the signal from an internal loft aerial but it failed to pick up any signal at all (USB power from a desktop using Windows Media Centre which normally works fine on the loft aerial) - this is in the Greater London area so I would have expected a decent reception. So it went back for a refund.

Although I had great expectations to view Freeview TV Channels with the help of this Antenna, I was thoroughly disappointed with its performances, when I got connected to the TV, I did not get any signals in any of the channels.
I think the manufactures should make the users aware of how it should be set with a guided manual. With instructions to set it up, rather than allowing the buyer to use trial and error method of setting it up. Probably it may be good, but I cannot use it.
I did not want to return it, as I need to do some research with it, to find out whether it will work in various other circumstances,
I bought this after studying reviews in the amazon website.
I am sorry, I cannot review this further.
