3.0 out of 5 stars Simple but limited 19 April 2011

This transmitter does exactly what it says on the tin but there are no frills. The main unit allows you to control the volume, adjust the frequency and navigate through the tracks forwards and in reverse. Unfortunately it doesn't allow you to fast forward or rewind within a track. I had hoped the remote control might achieve this function but it doesn't seem to work.

The transmitter isn't that strong - local pirate radio stations cause significant interference, but this is remedied by changing frequency.

Despite the drawbacks, one gets what one pays for and therefore, considering the units ability to accept a variety of media formats and storage device formats, the low price makes this a worthy purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than I expected for the price 2 Dec 2011
By Robin

I've recently been working on digitising my record collection to an mp3 player. Since I don't have an auxilliary socket on my car audio, I decided to get this.

Now firstly, it isn't a full function mp3 player. You can't scroll through your list of albums, artists etc. You just get a stack of songs, in my case I've added 470, although it does play them in album order. Now this is the downside, because there's virtually no way of telling where the song or album you want to hear is. There is a facility to go to specified song number, but that's it. If you want a specific song or even album, finding it is a nightmare.

Now the reason I've given it 4 stars. I am amazed how good the sound quality is. There is a very faint background hiss, but I can only really hear that when the car is stopped and it's a quiet track. For example I tried an Enigma album which tends to range from very quiet to loud, and there was a little hiss, same with the Floyd. However put on the Stones, Rory Gallagher or Robert Plant and you won't notice it, and lets face it, under normal driving conditions ambient noise is more of an issue than a very quiet hiss.

I was also suprised when I turned the engine off that there was a radio station sharing the frequency I was using (not very strong admittedly), but this unit had been totally unaffected, although it may have been the cause of the hissing? I'll need to experiment to be sure.

One thing to be aware of before buying, it won't take a storage device greater than 4 gb. Not a major problem since my 470 songs only take up 2.3 gb, but if (like me) you were planning on using an 8 gb SD card, you can't.

Overall, before buying this I did have misgivings as to what the sound quality would be like, but I shouldn't have worried. More mp3 player options would have been nice, or even a jack plug so you could plug in your mp3 player, but at this price what do you expect?

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish 10 Nov 2012
By Gary
Colour Name:Red|Verified Purchase
Bought for an upcoming european roadtrip, to cut down on the huge stack of CD's i have to carry in the car.
Item arrived well packaged in good time.
Worked straight out of the box as soon as i plugged it into my car's cigarette lighter socket.
Accepts either an SD card or USB stick up to a max of 8GB, so my 4GB SD card was fine. My card was formatted to FAT32, and the files were stored as MP3's and the August FM transmitter worked fine like this.
Simple instruction's are included, but not really needed?
Tune your car radio to the frequency that the transmitter is broadcasting on, and you're good to go. Starts to play card's contents alphabetically as soon as it's plugged in. Can be set to random and repeat, and if it get's unplugged, starts again from the beginning of the last track to be played. Display gives plenty of info too.
Quality isn't exactly amazing, and it has a slightly fragile feel to it?
SD card doesn't go in very far, so care is needed to prevent it being bumped. At a guess, a USB stick would take up even more room than an SD card?
Small complaints though, considering the price. At less than £6 i'm more than happy!

UPDATE as of 29.1.13.....
Considering the short time i've had this thing, i'm now not happy. It's only had light use no more that a couple of times a week, and yesterday it dropped to bits when being removed from my car's 12v socket. Not only did it blow the fuse, but i had to strip the centre console to allow access to get all the wreckage out of the socket. I know it was cheap, and i could have lived with a failure but as it actually caused damage to my vehicle and created a couple of hours of work and hassle i'm less than pleased. A good idea executed poorly. Buy a better one.

3.0 out of 5 stars FM Transmitter 3 Jun 2011

Generally quite good. The random feature doesn't seem to work very well, playing the same "random" tracks each time, but for the money it's very simple and easy to use and saves carrying loads of cd's.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOP DEVICE! 2 Dec 2010
Colour Name:Red|Verified Purchase
I got this because I drive for a living and get board silly with the radio.
This was easy to load with my own music, radio plays, stories any MP3 podcasts.
The sound is good and loud, the interference from other stations is overcome by tuning to another frequency.
There is no skip or shuffle but hey it's only a few quid, what do you want!

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what I want it to 3 Oct 2012
By Robert

Before I got this I was a bit worried due to the price and lack of reviews, but thinking that it's easy enough to send it back to Amazon if it turns out to be a dud, I took the gamble. I needn't have worried, the little gadget is good at what it does, I just stick my SD card in and it starts transmitting. Sound quality is good, far better than the one I got from the local supermarket, its simple to use and my autoscan on the radio picks it up with ease. For the price this is an absolute bargain, it even has a remote! Thoroughly recommended.
