From the Back Cover

Praise for the Auditor’s Dictionary

"A fascinating read. The selection of entries is imaginative and prophetic and in itself progresses the science and art that is audit. This will be an essential part of the auditor’s toolkit–cherished, revised, and updated over the years–and a firmly entrenched aspect of the audit environment."
–Professor Gerald Vinten, PhD, Editor, Managerial Auditing Journal
Past president, Institute of Internal Auditors–UK and Ireland

"Everything you wanted to know about auditing but were afraid to ask. David O’Regan has compiled a comprehensive, which will be easily understood by nonauditors and greatly appreciated by financial and audit professionals. This is a must–have addition for professional libraries and a standard desktop reference for accountants, auditors, and financial professionals."
–Jim Kaplan, CIA, CFE, founder and principal of AuditNet.org

"This is an invaluable reference for all those who write about, study, and practice the arts of risk management, control , and governance."
–Jeffrey Ridley, PhD, Professor of Auditing, London
South Bank University

"Remarkably comprehensive and clearly written, this book should be in every audit group’s library."
–James Roth, PhD, President, AuditTrends

"This is a thoroughly comprehensive data source on auditing. It should prove invaluable to all with an interest in auditing–including practitioners, academics, and students."
–Professor Tom Lee, Professor Emeritus of Accountancy
University of Alabama

"A goldmine of easily accessible facts for practitioners and researchers."
–Curtis C. Verschoor, PhD, Research Professor Emeritus
School of Accountancy and MIS, DePaul University

No longer will auditors be obliged to pore through dense accounting dictionaries for relevant information: the Auditor’s Dictionary is dedicated to the complex and dynamic language of auditing. International in scope, the 1,700 entries are fully cross–referenced, with precise definitions and examples of usage. This pioneering dictionary also features separate sections dealing with non–English terms, acronyms and abbreviations, relevant legislation, and more.

I have found this book to be a treasure-house of information on auditing. In a sense, it's more than a mere dictionary, as it progresses beyond word definitions to offer encyclopedic information on topics like risk management, corporate governance, and audit sampling. It's a book I've returned to time and again over the last few months.

One minor criticism might be that the dictionary doesn't contain any illustrations or graphics to support some of the entries, whereas I think this could have been useful.

But, overall, essential material for the auditor or corporate governance specialist.

A very good dictionary. 2 Sep 2004
By A reader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I found this dictionary very helpful in elucidating auditing terminology, and explaining the background to audit concepts. Complex ideas are often distilled into a few, clear paragraphs. Perhaps an additional diskette would have been useful to aid key word searches?

But overall this is a very good guide to the language of audit. Recommend.

Valuable tool. 1 Sep 2004
By Audit Director - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
As an auditor, I found this dictionary to be a valuable tool: at last, in one volume, there is a comprehensive guide to auditing terminology. It is a relief to no longer have to plod through accounting dictionaries to find auditing terms. Guidance for further reading within the auditing literature is another plus.

This book is not worth is price. It gives you general definations you can look up on any general search engine. However, the special action verbs and or complex auditing procedures are not listed. Its for a high school student taking accounting for the first time.
