Auditions 27 Aug 2009
Format:Paperback
This is an extremely practical guide for people who really want to break into the acting profession. There's no guarantee that this book will get you a job, but it sure comes up with a lot of good ideas as to how to go about obtaining auditions, as well as how best to proceed once you've got one. This publication definitely fills a gap in the market, offering good advice without sugar-coating the difficulties.

A brilliant book 29 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
I opened this book with some trepidation, as I thought it was going to be very much a strict 'do this, do that' style textbook or how to guide, but how wrong I was. Yes, it tells you what to do, and what not to do, with rock solid advice (some of it so simple you wouldn't even necessarily bother to think of it, even though it's extremely valid) entertainingly written by someone with huge experience to share - and I am so grateful that he has! As someone who has been round the proverbial block a few times myself, I found myself nodding frequently (and rather ashamedly!) at the anecdotes, having been guilty of many of them myself over the years. This is an amazing find for anyone starting out as a performer, and indeed those thinking of going down this path, but as someone with over 20 years' experience, I have to say I learnt a huge amount and would heartily recommend this book to anyone, regardless of their experience level in performing. This is destined to become a classic 'must read' of the performing arts world, and deservedly so!

As someone who has been a jobbing actress for over 20 years, I thought this book would just be for wanabes or newcomers to the performing profession. I was wrong. While some of the information was already in the back of my mind, learned from drama school and through personal experience, there is a lot of great advice and many techniques which had never occurred to me. The 'Power of Positive Thinking' chapter is inspired and the insider background information is escellent - I wish this book had been around years ago, when I was at drama school. It's well written in an easy to read, entertaining way too, with some laugh out loud funny anecdotes. This book is a must for all performers, from the wanabes and newcomers to the most established professional - everyone will learn something and improve their success rate at auditions, interviews and castings. Great stuff!Auditions
