This is a wonderful anthology of short audition speeches for women. The ones I've used are Alan Ayckbourn's COMIC POTENTIAL, Miles Tredinnick's TOPLESS and Winsome Pinnock's MULES. All three have proved to be winners at auditions that I've gone up for. I recommend Jean Marlow's book for all serious actresses looking for something a bit different. In addition to the 50 speeches there are invaluable notes about how to prepare for auditions whether they're for drama school, theatre, TV or films and there's also an interesting piece by Sir Peter Hall about creative working in the theatre. These speeches got me work, what better recommendation could I give? Great book.

I'm soon auditioning for drama schools and wanted a book like this to help me select some of my monologues. Even though I don't have tons of experience, I found this book easy to understand and great for both the beginner as well as a reference to someone who's been in the industry a while. There are 42 different monologues in all, each showcasing different ages, ethnicities, accents, emotions, and more. They plays picked are interesting and relatable, and it's easy to find many characters one can identify with.

The first 15 pages are packed with tips and advice from industry insiders/professionals, some of which more helpful than others but it gets you in the mood for reading the monologues afterwards. The final page of the book lists a few important contacts, which I found to be very helpful!

Because this book gives a variety of ages, I know I will have this book in my collection for many years to come, all throughout my professional career.

This book has a wide range of all types of monologues but, in a way that is its fault. This book crams in all sorts of accents and ages ranging from Irish and Scottish to Texas and Eastern European. Although this is fantastic if you want a specialist speech it is not the best resource for the average recieved pronounciation actress.

The layout and opening paragraphs are clear and informational though I would still suggest reading the play that the monologue is from if taking it to a serious audition.
