I spent a lot of time going through all the options for 'on-ear' headphones for my Classic ipod and finally plumped for these- and am very glad that I did.
The most annoying part of choosing headphones is that, unless you happen to have plenty of friends who own a wide variety of headphones, it is nigh on impossible to try out the various options in a shop due to, I am told, 'hygiene issues'.
Therefore, I was almost wholly reliant on Amazon reviews and, as a result, almost ended up with the Sennheiser PX200 ii. I'm sure they would've been fine but, for just an extra £20, these won the battle and I believe it is money well spent.
I listen to a lot of Thrash and Death Metal and wanted something that could give me deep bass and could handle the 'crunch' without breaking up or, the worst result, letting everything amalgamate into a formless mush with a tinny drum sound- separation of the tones and being able to hear the different instruments is very important to me; from the splashiest hi-hat to the lowest bass rumble, I wanted it all!
And these headphones are matching my desires so far- a good tight headband keeps the cups glued to my ears, ensuring a concentrated sound- a sound which is full and thick while letting the details shine through, even from the relatively low quality mp3s of an ipod.
Maybe, if I had the cash, I would get an even better sound from some insanely expensive audiophile's dream headphones, but, for under £100, as I managed to get these, I'm not sure I could possibly have done any better.
One final pro and con though- con: the lead feels like it might not be that hard wearing but, obviously, only time will tell on that- pro: the packaging is wonderful and gives you a sense of confidence and excitement even before you plug the phones themselves in- half the battle won!
Heartily recommended, whatever style of music you listen to!
