Product Description

"This is a true handbook in the 'just-about-everything-you'd-want-to know-in-one-volume' sense of the word... it is a resource for those who would like to gain some of Self's deep understanding of the subtleties of amplifier design. --EDN Magazine, January 23, 2003

About the Author

Douglas Self has dedicated himself to demystifying amplifier design and establishing empirical design techniques based on electronic design principles and experimental data. His rigorous and thoroughly practical approach has established him as a leading authority on amplifier design, especially through the pages of Electronics World where he is a regular contributor. Douglas is a senior designer at Tag McLaren Audio.

Buy this book. Having worked as a professional audio electronics design engineer I tell you Mr. Self knows his subject - for power amps far better than I. All his designs are based on facts and measurements. Such a blessed relief from those who would tell you that gold plated mains plugs give better "sound quality". Its written in a good readable style and I can only fault it in so far as I want more of the same. If you have even the smallest of interests in audio design, be educated and buy this book. If you have an old edition, the new one is well worth it for the extra bits on Class G et al.

HASH(0x9f3b27d4) out of 5 stars Not much use for any design work G. Randy Slone's book much better 12 Mar. 2006
By Charles Edward Denton - Published on
Format: Paperback
I purchased this book along with High Power Audio Amplifier Construction Manual by G. Randy Slone. If you want to read about

300 pages of information you can obtain free from Mr. Self's website then buy all means by this book because it is a repeat of the blamless amplifier theory, however if you really want a design book with the whyfore's included Mr. Slone's book is the book for you and should rate 10 stars for audio design. I really don't understand why Amazon hyped this book. I should have saved my money I expected more from Mr. Self.

HASH(0x9f3b442c) out of 5 stars Considerations on the book 23 Feb. 2006
By Orfei Renato - Published on
Format: Paperback
The book is very deep in some topics but is very poor in design formulas. The formulas should be included, explained and can be skipped by the readers who are not keen on mathematics.

Some schematic diagrams are simply not readable as the printing size, or the book format, is too small.

HASH(0x9fd7f8d0) out of 5 stars first rate 5 Mar. 2006
By it - Published on
Format: Paperback
This is the third edition and so the reviews prior to 2002 are for earlier editions. The author makes equipment for recording studios.

The book discusses the different alternatives for circuit topologies used in audio amplifiers and their advantages and disadvantages. There are many SPICE simulation graphs with associated discussions.

HASH(0x9f3b45e8) out of 5 stars very efficient 19 Mar. 2010
By Vittore Bonaventura - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
The service provided was very efficient. The price I paid was good for me and the book I received was in excellent condition. Just a remark about the long delivery time from usa to italy. But I suppose this is due to custom procedures not to amazon.Audio Power Amplifier Design Handbook, Fifth Edition
