With the end of the Carry on films in 1978 [discounting Carry on Columbus], Kenneth Williams' career moved towards a series of appearances in quiz and chat shows. These shows gave Williams the platform on which to show off his brilliant talents in telling showbiz stories which were partly autobiographical and partly exaggeration. In 'An Audience With Kenneth Williams', this is the ultimate Williams performance as a first-rate raconteur as he tells his classic tales and jokes in front of the leading celebrities of the early 1980's.
An Audience With Kenneth Williams is great throughout and offers us an hour in the company of one of Britain's great comic actors. Although the show has been released before on DVD, this is by far the superior release and merits its 'Special Edition' label due to the higher quality version of the show, which a sharp picture and sound as well as some unexpected extras in the form of three interviews from various chat shows from the 1970's and 1980's. The best interview is with Russell Harty with Williams on top form.
Overall, this is a fine release and perfect for any Kenneth Williams fan.
