If you find it hard to visualise the full potential of that cold dark cobweb filled space called the attic, this is the book for you. It is packed full of colour photographs of successful attic conversions which are bright and full of light. This book is probably most suitable for those looking for ideas for something a little beyond the standard attic conversion. Equally it is not for those looking for a detailed step by step approach to planning laws, construction etc. which is provided by other publications such as Laurie Willaimson's Loft Conversions. It does have a practical dimension however, templates provided in the book are incredibly useful and save time in the time consuming task of reducing furniture and fittings to scale drawings on graph paper. It is an American publication so US building regulations and cost estimates are quoted which reduce it's usefullness and bring down the book rating to four stars.

This book is good to get visual ideas on what you want gone. There is not much detail about finding a builder, what to expecty during the build, regulation & obtaining planning etc...

Great book! 23 Mar 2000

I guess someone put in the wrong book description -- attics don't usually have radon problems! I got a ton of ideas. Now I have created a great plan and can't wait to begin working on the attic of our house.

My Attic is Almost Complete~ Thanks to this book. 27 Mar 2010
By L. H. Allen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The Home & Garden attic book gave me the courage to begin and complete the project. The room is painted, electricity installed for heating, windows are installed and the cabinets are in process as I speak. I removed a closet and installed a regular staircase in a small back room. The 2 windows were installed first.

The project from beginning to end has taken 2 to 3 years. I've paid cash for everything.

Take your time.
