4.0 out of 5 stars Not a fantastic book 18 April 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
But, as I am very keen on books set on or about QE2, it was enjoyable to read. Some aspects of the plot are a bit far fetched and the book is very US centric; Richard Henrick has obviously read some of the marketing details provided by Cunard and quotes them verbatim but it is still a pleasant was of passing a few days reading.

1.0 out of 5 stars yawn, yawn. 11 Nov 2010
By Mrs Bee
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
Obvious that the author has done lots of research but do we need it all spelt out in long and boring detail? This is supposed to be an ACTION novel. Even when the action gets going in the way of martial arts fights these are described in such detail as to be leaden.
There are too many characters who are not drawn properly,eg describing a service record in detail doesn't illustrate a character. The dialogue is poor and stilted.
One of the reviewers said it would make a good film - well it was made into a telefilm, available on DVD, starring Joe Lando,& Rob Estes. filmed on board the QE2 it is much more satisfactory than the book. Cast of characters is slimmed down, the relationship between the brothers is altered and the secret service agents are much more effective than in the book where they seem to be protrayed as unfit and rather inefficient.Lots of action and no long descriptions of what people are eating.
Skip the book , get the DVD instead.
Not a book I will read again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splendid read! 13 July 1999

Format:Hardcover
Picked up this novel in the QE2 bookstore during a recent trans-Atlantic crossing, and must say that it was fascinating. It's filled with detailed information on the ship itself, and I found it incredibly fun to walk the ship in the footsteps of the novel's characters. I'm certain that the story was penned with film in mind, and I do hope the filmakers cast Sean Connery and Michael Caine to represent the UK.

I've always been fascinated w/ the QE2, and Henrick's book only made me more interested in this last of the great ocean liners. I certainly see a movie in this fast paced story, that captures all the class and ambiance of a real live ocean crossing. And even if I can't afford a real sea going voyage, at least I have this marvelous book to read once again.
