this HBO 1993 remake of the 1958n original, is actually a very enjoyable slice of re-make knowing / post-modern fun.
Daryl Hannah plays the part perfectly in a dead pan manner as the alienated, badly treated small town wife of a serial womanizer. the effects are great - pure 50' b-movie saturated colours, believable 50's sets , clothes etc in a very enjoyable trashy Saturday night film that even fans of the original 1958 version will enjoy i'm sure (I certainly did) : which even includes a few knowing clips from the original in this version, thus acknowledging + re-contextualising the original for a new audience (if you get that in a art /film critic jargon speak..) , whether eager post-modernist film fans or new teen audience. great fun. the real enjoyment of course is for fans who know the original version with its hilarious giant hand attack scene etc. the original is still the best authentic version of course, but this remake is still enjoyable - Saturday night in with a pizza and friends kind of way .
