My 11 year old son has just finished the third of Paul Adam's Max Cassidy trilogy - Attack At Dead Man's Bay - and I can honestly say that these books have finally shown him how enjoyable reading should be. Apart from the Harry Potter books, which he eventually got into, we have really struggled to get our son to read for pleasure. It's always been a case of hassling him until he reads, and then it's just a few minutes before bed. With Paul Adam's books, from the first line of the first novel, he has been unable to put them down. They seem to be perfectly pitched at our son's age group - perhaps ten to thirteen/fourteen - where you need excitement but you can cope with plot, intrigue and interesting characters.
I hope Paul Adam writes more of these, ideally featuring the wonderful Max Cassidy, but if not, at least continuing to target this 10-15 age group. He has a real talent for story telling.

The third and final book of the thrilling Max Cassidy series is full of fear, love and happiness. Paul Adam has seriously stepped his writing up a level as he finally concludes the jaw-dropping adventure of the teenage escapologist, Max Cassidy. In this book, Max is still tracking down his arch-enemy, Julius Clark, but not alone; he has his trusty friends, Consuela (Max's stage assistant), and Chris (a former army corporal). Max's mother, Helen Cassidy is still in prison for killing Max's father, Alexander Cassidy; but Max knows that his mother is innocent, and that his father is still alive, and that is what he is still trying to prove.
People who like lots of adventure and action will love this book because there is literally not a single page without an epis chase or a scary fight. I fully recommend this book. Is is an amazing and heroic story that everyone who reads it will love. With an outstanding storyline and not a moment of boredom, Attack at dead man's bay gets a perfect star rating of five!
