Product Description

Album Description
It is a contiuous mix of progressive breakbeat music containing elements of trance in a majority of the songs. A lot of the tracks were b-sides of Trance and Progressive house records off strong labels in Germany and the UK. This is filled with really well produced songs. It definitley appeals to both Breakbeat, Progressive House, and Trance fans a like.

3.0 out of 5 stars Potent breakbeat hybrid not quite realized in sequel, 11 Feb 2003
There's an investigative report lurking somewhere to explain the lack of breakbeat/trance hybrids available, while we're endlessly deluged by more fast and furious tunes than could possibly be heard. Simply consider the incredibly voracious appetite for trance these days, and the current next-wave audience accustomed to diverse musical inspirations, raised on the drum hook foundations of hip hop. Where's the meeting ground? The Distinctive Breaks label in England perhaps best mines this fertile crossover territory (the Y2K-Y4K series being the model), but only their releases from superstar group Hybrid have landed Stateside.

At least over here DBJ gets it, churning out a successful sequel that taps that potent mix of progressive sounds and nu-school breaks. The ethereal melodies remain, but bolted to slower, funkier loops and ripping bass, are magnified in power. In some cases the combination makes otherwise stock material (Angel's "Lost Tribe") wholly invigorating, or adds a last gasp of life to well played tunes (Hybrid's rip-snorting revision of Albion's "Air"). When all the elements come together - studdering synths, breathy vocals, powerful groove - it's magic. That's Ashtrax "Helsinki," one of 2000's best pieces. On the flip side, Auratek (a collective that includes DBJ) fries up a screaming electro "Ocean Child", showcasing the range of material available.

Saying all that, several plaintive cuts ("Def Set", "Argonout," "Skylight") keep Atmospherics 2.0 from busting out of the pack in a typically crowded year for compilations. And what's up with the weak bass levels recorded to disc? It seems even when dutifully served we just can't catch a break.
