"...an excellent reference book…(and) an important addition to any clinician’s library..." (Practical Diabetes International. Vol21., No.9 November/ December 2004)

Diabetes mellitus is the lack of insulin leading to uncontrolled carbohydrate metabolism, the breakdown of starches and sugars into smaller units that can be used by the body for energy. Foot ulcers occur in about 15% of diabetic patients in their lifetime and hospital admissions due to foot ulcers are very common. Foot problems mostly occur when there is nerve damage in the feet or when there is poor blood flow.

5.0 out of 5 stars essential reading for foot health practitioners, 8 Sep 2009
By
This review is from: Atlas of the Diabetic Foot (Hardcover)
I bought this as one of the recommended reading books for my online course and have really appreciated the details given concerning this subject. The pictures are certainly a deterrant to anyone thinking they might be careless with managing their diabetes! The many case studies and careful descriptions give plenty of help with examinations, diagnoses and treatment. It is essentially a book for those involved in offering treatment and is quite expensive to buy. However, my copy was printed in India and therefore was significantly cheaper but still very good quality with a good hardcover binding, clear printing and photos. It also arrived amazingly quickly.
