The top 10 Athens is fine for a short trip, it covers all the major sights and the main top 10 for each category (museums, walks, food etc)as well as top 10s for areas. A good range of recommendations for food, drink and entertainments it is ideal for a short visit and has the benefit of being quite small so it will fit easily into a handbag or pocket.

It is NOT detailed, if you are visiting a sight it will only give you a few basic facts about it and its opening times etc. It doesn't give a lot of history or detail about any item in it and probably wouldn't be suitable either for someone wanting a lot of background, detail about the place they are visiting or staying longer than a couple of days.

But it is ideal for a short trip with basic information easily and readily presented and very good street maps

My family and I went on holiday to Anthens very recently and were extremely disappointed with this guide book. All the opening times for museums and the archeological sites were wrong and the book in general appeared very unreliable. The book gave a list of the top ten visits in the area of Athens, however we were extremely disappointed when we discovered many of these tourist attractions weren't in fact particularly interesting after we made a big effort to see them. We were also extremely surprised to fing the new acropolis museum at number two when it hasn't even opened yet, or built, for that matter. To us,this guide book was not written with the experience and knowledge we originally expected of eye witness. However, If you are more bothered about the history of the place you are about to visit, rather than which place you should visit, then this book does, in fact, give you some good information. In my opinion this book is not meant for a five day family holiday, but if i was to recommend it to someone, I would suggest only weekenders, as It is a perfect pocket information and history book, but definately NOT useful for any other situation. One evening my family even sat down at a restaurant reading parts of the guide book out and laughing at it!

This is a compact little book full of information, easy to read and light to carry, perfect for a short weekend break when one has to be very selective about what to do and see in limited time.

Another fine guide from the DK eyewitness series. I use these a lot and they never fail to succeed in making my trip more interesting.

The book gave us what we needed but there were 3 maps included and each one wasn't clear enough. Whether that's cos us old ones have to keep getting our glasses out, but when you have a central 'tourist' area eg Plaka and especially for those who are only there for a couple of days you need a larger, clearer area of popular tourist haunts.

We found this neat little guide very useful during our city break. We particularly liked the pocket sized pull out street map, which was really convenient for exploring the back streets. We went at Easter and would have appreciated mention of Easter opening times. Everything was closed on Easter Sunday, but on the other hand, it was a bonus to find that most historical sites had free entry on Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.
