Total Annihilation was a massive hit by Cavedog. I first bought the product in 1997 (8 years ago) making quite an old game, but none the less its still a great game. The graphics are not as pixelated or worn as other older games such as Warcraft, and can still compete with some of the reigning games today.
Over the last 8 years ive found myself playing this game for a countless number of hours. Its mulitplayer provides endless choices and strategies with the AI constantly adapting and giving you new ideas and ways of building a battle scene.
The release of Core Contingency and Battle Tactics only made the collection better with more maps and units to satisfy your needs. It is nearly impossible to get to use all the different units in one game since there are simple so many which gives you even more freedom to create numerous amounts of fun by basing your units on certain areas (Sea, Air, Land).
The campaigns are utterly amazing and really test your skills as you progress. The compaings are so good that playing them once just wont satisfy you!
The one thing that makes this collection of games sooo good is that you can play them over and over for years and years with never having the same battle twice!
Great job Cavedog!

This game is just sooooo good. I would recommend it to ANYONE who has even a vague interest in Stragegy games. Ever seen a film where everyone is under heavy fire and losing the battle while the enemy approaches, most of your men are dead then suddenly a few dropships approach and pull the remaining few men out while a dozen missiles fly past the dropships engines but the men are safely lifted out? Well then youve seen TA. Its so realistic, all the movement, everything. Another good factor? I've been playing this game for 4 years now and I still ain't bored of it, and this is coming from a person who gets bored after completing most games (usually in about a week I might add) but TA is different, and the add-on packs just make a good thing ever better.

Total Annihilation is getting rather old these days, but amazingly, it can still hold its own against ALL comers. When it was first released it boasted revolutionary features such as fully contoured terrain elevations which actually affected line of sight - Put simply, you couldn't see past a big hill, but if you were on top of the hill, you got a much better view of the surrounding area. Even today, most strategy gaes do not implement this feature. Add to this realistic radar (showing enemy units as blips on the mini map), and the ability to queue up an infinite number of commands for each individual unit (For example, go here, build this, build that, then move back here) in an incredibly simple interface (just shift-click!), PLUS an enormous variety of unit types (which all serve their own specific purposes) and you soon realise that other so-called strategy games just can't keep up.
But that's not all! There is STILL an enormous online community playing games and MODIFYING the game - That means new downloadable units, maps, even total conversions which change the entire look and feel of the game (such as Battlestar Galactica Total Annihilation).
In 1997, this truly was a game ahead of its time. In 2005, it remains one of the most advanced and enjoyable strategy games available.(...)
