Atari released the Jaguar console in 1993/94, and the Atari fans were hoping that Atari would get it right this time. Long story short, the Jaguar was a flop, but for a while in 1994 and early 1995 it was a contender with games such as Alien Vs Predator and Tempest 2000.
Tempest 2000 is based on Atari's 1980 coin-op smash hit. Tempest 2000 takes Tempest to the next level...and beyond.
Graphics are superb! Polygonal enemies (especially the demon heads), pixel shatter, rich vibrant colors, Melt-O-Vision, and the "Jupiter Bacon" make this game very visually appealing.
The audio in this game has to be heard to be believed! Crystal-clear voice samples, outstanding sound effects, and a thumping CD-quality techno-rave soundtrack may just give you an auditory orgasm!
Controls are superb! It is easy to move your ship around the Tempest Tube. It is easy to fire your weapons, even your Superzapper. And it is also easy to jump once you acquire the Jump powerup so you can blast your enemies without them having a chance to touch you! And there is an Easter Egg in the game that will allow you to play with a rotary controller (for those handy with a soldering iron, the easiest way to build a Jaguar rotary controller is taking the potentiometer and knob from an Atari 2600 Driving controller (similar to the paddle, but the paddle only turns 270 degrees, while the Driving controller turns a full 360 and then some).
Many game options to choose from. Play Tempest (original), Tempest Plus, Tempest 2000, and a 2 player battle version of Tempest!
