Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The EVE Online box will include all nine previously released expansions plus the forthcoming tenth expansion entitled EVE Online: Apocrypha which introduces numerous new features including unstable wormholes to explore and modular ships that pilots may tailor-build to suit their own specifications and needs. All subsequent expansions will be free of charge to all subscribers, continuing CCP’s commitment to offer free updates and expansions to its subscribers at regular intervals.

Breaking with tradition, the collection of extras will also include 60 days of free game time, a departure from the standard 30 days offered for most MMOGs, allowing players to sign up and get started without paying any subscription fees for the first 60 days of a new account. Alternatively, the included game time may be used to extend an existing subscription or be split into two 30-day codes known as “Pilot License Extensions” (PLEX) that can be sold to other players through the in-game market for in-game currency.

Players redeeming the code to activate a new account will also receive these special in-game items:

o    INSTANT WAR ACCESS: This certificate allows rapid access to organized combat (through increased standings), helping new players get into the action quickly.

o    EXCLUSIVE CAREER GUIDE: Accessed via the website to allow for dynamic updates, the guide includes insider tips and tricks.

o    VIP PASS: Use this card to invite a friend to try the game for 21 days. When that friend becomes an EVE Online subscriber, you will get an additional 30 days of free game time.

o    EXCLUSIVE IN-GAME SHIP: An exclusive new ship, the Interbus Shuttle, will allow players to fly in style with an increased capacity cargo hold to ferry those extra crucial items at high speeds.

Product Description

As settlers explored the dark, unknown regions of space, they discovered a celestial port that led to a beautiful and expansive system. It was the gateway to a place they dubbed "New Eden." Rich in minerals and resources, New Eden was bombarded with throngs of pilots hoping to stake their claim amongst fighters, pirates and corporations. Millions flourished in wealth and millions more died in warfare before the wormhole suddenly closed, severing the colonists from Earth - forever. A dark age fell upon New Eden for thousands of years before four dominant nations-states emerged: Amarr, Minmatar, Gallente, Caldari.

With more than 250,000 pilots existing within one persistent universe, create your own epic story - from the moment you enter the vast galaxy as a humble pilot commanding a small frigate to the day you lead your own corporation against the tyranny of powerful factions. Grab the controls and set course toward your imminent destiny in EVE Online.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deepest, most complex "sandbox" MMOG 29 Jan 2009
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
EVE-Online isn't for everyone. It's a complex, sprawling game that has few limits and even less boundaries. Do what you want, when you want, and do it how you want to. Trade, PvE, Mining, Industry, and (arguably most importantly) PvP are all available and, unlike most traditional MMOG's, there are no 'classes' and no levels.

Perhaps most impressively, all of EVE takes place on one server-cluster, so there's no sharding. This gives EVE a unique world-environment where it's possible to actually become a part of the history of the game. Five years on, and people still talk about things that took place in the first few months/years after launch.

Training is all done in real-time, so you start training a skill and x amount of hours/days/weeks the skill is complete which means that there's no grinding in the traditional "kill 15 boars and bring me their pelts" sense, although there's no argument that there is a large amount of grinding for ingame money, as money equals power.

The publishers have done an amazing job at continuing development, and this box-set is the result of a partnership with Atari to bring EVE back to stores. This is a perfect time to jump aboard as the mission system is getting a complete overhaul, and many cool new features are being introduced (wormholes, new, modular ship design), and soon we will see EVE get avatars other than just the ships.

Again, EVE won't be for everyone, but those that like it truly love it.

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Eve is a game where what you can do has no limits.
Many people first think about skills at first glance, but unless you want to fly high-tech ships (doesn't mean the best ships, just high tech) or go into high-end research and industry, they are just not important.
This ain't space opera hack n' slash.
The activities are not limited to space fight. Eve allows things like trading (with dedication, you can rule parts of the market, the market is huge, very active and subject to speculation), exploration (with the wormholes, you can visit new uncharted systems and also find hidden places in the known systems) and... politics.
Politics, the alliances in eve have very complex relationships and plots are prepared everyday. Diplomats have a great importance in their conquest game of the space unclaimed by the great NPC factions. Thousands of systems are fought over for sovereignty, each alliance trying to have a place they can call home.

If your main interest is fighting, you'll soon find that older players are not the invincible beasts so many says they are. While in many online games a bunch of newbies wouldn't scratch higher level characters and would get wiped out with the back of the hand, in eve, the best (non capital, capital ships are made for very large scale engagements and siege operations, but are quite useless to fight most smaller ships) ships in the game with the oldest players inside can be brought down using some newbies and some tactics. You'd better use your brain than brag about the size of your guns.

Build yourself a name in the galaxy or stay in the shadows, there are always things you can do, may you be a newbie or an older player.

5.0 out of 5 stars boogaloo 9 Feb 2009
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Utterly amazing game. Played it from launch day, and it's utterly addictive. It's a real 'slow burn' game and it's not for everyone though.

One point to bear in mind is that it's a very harsh game. In Eve if you lose your ship in combat it's gone forever - there's no 'respawn and try again'. This adds to the thrill (I can still remember my hands literally shaking during my first few PVP engagements) but you can end out losing your prized possession. Assuming you've 'cloned' recently you won't lose skillpoints though.

The really remarkable bit is the sandbox politics. Almost all of the content comes from the incredible community and the fierce rivalries between the player base.

It's a truly amazing game.
