Format: Hardcover
....does he need a pair of glasses like his friend Anna?

'Read at Home:First Experiences from ORT (Oxford Reading Tree), can be read by children at Level 4 of Read at Home.'

30 high quality, shiny pages, colourfully illustrated throughout.
Numbered pages with medium sized text and, on average, 3-4 sentences.
There is the usual 'Talk about the story' with 4 questions on page 27, followed by a 'How to look after your eyes' 2-page spread, with the main 'Do' and 'Don'ts'. This book winds up with a simple test to see which shape of glasses match the 6 people featured.

Example of text:-

'Anna had come to stay for a few days. Kipper and Anna did a drawing, then Kipper read his book with Mum.
"That's very good, Kipper," said Mum. "Now I'm going to make an extra big pizza........"

....and Kipper goes on to help his Mum with an interesting end product!

As the story continues it is soon apparent that as Kipper sometimes sees words 'a bit fuzzy' and often gets headaches... a trip to the optician is necessary.
The trip covers the main areas covered in an eye test, so that first timers will know what to expect, e.g. shining a light into the eyes, letter recognition, 'funny glasses' (to ascertain lens strength), light and dark exercises, double vision.......
As it turns out, Kipper gets a really simple solution to his fuzzy words!
Then when you think it is all over.........the story continues with Dad getting involved in the kitchen........
....Oh dear!
Perhaps another trip to the optician is in order!
Biff, Chip and Floppy all feature in this story, too.

this was a present for a little boy, 2 years old, who had an eye test at the hospital which frightened him. This book does at least explain what to expect and why. A great help.

Great book for covering off a first visit to the opticians, but kipper doesn't actually need glasses, he has good eyesight! Does anyone do a book about wearing first glasses, or must i write one myself!
