5.0 out of 5 stars Gentle, and not overpowering with the religion, 9 Mar 2006

I bought this book when I was on a break in New York. I wanted something that was quite typically 'small town America' and got just what I wanted.
At Home in Mitford follows the story of Father Tim, a rector in Carolina, as he just bumbles through day to day life. It's all very harmless, quite sweet (I'm sure some people would say possible a bit twee.) Although Father Tim is the central focus, I didn't find the book overpoweringly religious (luckily)
Nice use of humour, so even when things go a bit wrong there's some nice light relief.
I really enjoyed this book, in fact more than I enjoyed the second one in the series. If this is your 'bag' then I'd definitely give it a go!

5.0 out of 5 stars Become one of the family and come to Mitford., 20 Oct 2000

This review is from: At Home in Mitford (Paperback)
I found myself smiling, frowning, laughing (outloud), hoping, chringing and praying along with the characters in this story. I originally come from a very small town in the midwest and I felt like I was reading a journal that had happened within the confines on my own childhood. What a wonderful book to curl up with. Let the characters of Mitford invite you to go through their every day lives and laugh and cry with their joys and heartaches. I Loved this book so much I have sent it as gifts to all my friends and since we have continued to read all of the Mitford books. I find myself searching to see when the next one may come out. It's like waiting for a letter from someone you love. You just can't wait to see what has been going on in their lives. This and the others are a "MUST" read.

5.0 out of 5 stars At home in Mitford by Jan Karon, 18 Feb 2009
By D. R. Clifford (Bristol, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As with other 'Mitford Years' volumes this is an account of Father Tim and his associates which is so difficult to put down. The author has the latent ability to make the reader intrigued and fascinated by the day-to-day happenings in the small town of Mitford and make him eagerly await the next instalment.
