I rated this card 3 stars only because of the difficulty I had installing the card. But once you get it installed, I would give it a 5 star rating ..... it's both quiet and low power. I would recommend reading the two 5 star reviews for this card, as they have useful information about this card. I had two significant problems installing the card, which I will discuss in the hope that others can avoid the problems I ran into.
1) With settings at 1920 x 1080, which is the native resolution of my flat panel display, the HDMI video output was scaled down to about 85% of full screen size. This graphics card has a manager application called Catalyst Control Center, and the version that was initially installed was 11.2. While the help information in Catalyst 11.2 mentioned a "scaling function" in Catalyst, no scaling function was actually present in Catalyst 11.2. As of this review, the latest version of Catalyst is 11.3, and I would strongly recommend downloading and installing it as it has significant new features that are not present in 11.2, including the scaling function. Once the scaling function was adjusted to 100% in Catalyst 11.3, the problem was solved.
2) My PC has analog audio on the motherboard, which I needed to be functional after installing this graphics card. But since this card has HDMI audio, it has an HDMI audio driver that gets installed with the card installation. However, when the HDMI audio driver was installed, my analog audio driver disappeared. After many hours of trying everything I could think of to get the analog audio driver back, I contacted my PC's manufacturer and they determined that the problem was a BIOS setting. The analog audio on the motherboard has a BIOS setting that was set to "Auto", which worked for years as long as it was the only audio driver present. But as soon as the card's HDMI audio driver was installed, it automatically disabled the analog audio on the motherboard. The solution is to go into your BIOS setting (F10 at boot up in Vista) and find the analog audio and set it to "Enabled."
