I have bought this router as a replacement for a BT HomeHub 3.0 because I have changed my BT Broadband to BT Infinity 2 so an ADSL modem router is no longer necessary. The setup was extremely easy. Connected my laptop to the router by an ethernet cable, the router connected by another cable to the BT Infinity modem (installed by BT technicians), launched the install cd included in the box and followed the instructions.
The router has two enabled wireless networks by default, Asus (2.4GHz) and Asus_5G (5GHz) plus one Guest network turned off. The setup interface can be accessed from a browser by typing [...] (username and password is admin) into the address bar and looks simple and user friendly. WPA wireless keys are blank by default and have to be configured by yourself so use your imagination or a key from the old router like me. The first thing I have done was to check if a new firmware version is available (was 3.0.0.3.112) but the firmware has to be downloaded to the computer first and then upload it manually.
I have got an Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 in my laptop so I was curious if the router works up to 450MBps on the 5GHz network and it really does!! I had a full 450MBps connection but it was in the same room with the router. In my bedroom upstairs the connection holds between 200MBps and 300MBps plus minus even now when I'm writing this review. The signal reception on the 5Ghz network is approx 75-80% (upstairs) which means the same as the old BT HomeHub 3 but the 2.4GHz network has over 90%!!
This is definitely the best router I have ever had and my old Linksys WAG320N and the BT HomeHub 3 (got a brand new one and had an old one from before) is already listed for sale on ebay..

I bought this to replace a BT Home Hub 3 after reading many positive reviews, (here and elsewhere) about how great it was, how much faster it was and how it can reach parts of the house that other routers can't.
It was the promised range improvement that interested me, as we live in a house with a couple of wifi drop out zones and the Home Hub and other routers have not been able to reach them.
The item arrived from Germany only 2 days after ordering, which was really impressive. Set up was easy, after a quick trip to buy a UK adapter for the 2 pin plug. I setup 2 wifi networks, 1 on the 2.4 and 1 on the 5 Ghz band to lighten the load on the network, as there are 5 of us here plus all the usual tech..tablets, laptops, phones and consoles.
Most items can't find the 5 Ghz network and those that can achieve a max download speed of 5 Mbps. So we are all on the 2.4 Ghz network, getting up to 35 Mbps, which is exactly the same as the BT HH3/infinity 2. We also still have the same 2 wifi dropout zones as before.
I am therefore a bit disappointed with the router.
Although its' performance is perfectly acceptable it is no better than the HH3 or any other router that I have tried for that matter.

Edit : 04/02/2014

We have just changed ISP from BT Infinity 2 to Sky unlimited fibre. Using the Sky Hub at the master phone socket, I have reconfigured the Asus router as a wireless repeater and placed it in the upstairs room where previously no router had been able to reach. The result was incredible...this room is now the best wifi zone in the house. There is zero loss of signal and download/upload speeds are not reduced at all...(avg, 30 Mbps/10 Mbps respectively). We don't have the super fast (76Mbps) fibre and the estimated Sky speeds were up to 40 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload. So I am happy to give this product 5 stars all day long. I had originally awarded it 3 stars after being disappointed with performance prior to this edit.

This Router is the most powerful one I have so far gotten. I've tried many wireless routers, but this is the only one that covers my entire flat with 2 floors, total 4500 Square Feet. Installed in the centre of the home and covers every corner with at least 2 bars.

No need for extenders and repeaters. This one does the job.

For the first time, I have a router that works trouble free with all devices - tablets, phones, desktops. Quick and easy to configure - haven't had to restart it once. The range is excellent - it is reaching part of our large 3 storey home where previous devices have failed. Love the guest network facility. Would recommend

I purchased this (after studying reviews) as a front-end router to my Virgin Super Hub (in Modem mode). It has performed superbly, giving acces all round the house without any repeaters or access points. Not cheap ... but worth it!
