I've thrown just about everything at it since setting it up, it can manage photoshop elements 9 with only a slight slowdown (although not sure how it would manage with huge raw files or tiffs but 14mp are fine). I am very pleased with the speed of the internet on it (considering my rubbish broadband)with google chrome it is actually faster than my core2duo laptop with 3gb of ram.
Battery life is definately not 11 hours but are they ever what they say they are? However, I think I can probably get about 6-7 hours out of it with only browsing, although writing this it's giving me just over 4hrs with 55% remaining.
I also consider the build quality to be excellent and there is no flex in the keyboard with the matte screen making everything easier and the screen resolution can go up to 1024*768 which although distorts text, definitely makes it more compatible.
The chiclet keyboard is excellent and the mousepad is enormous, being the same size as my 15.6" laptop.
Overall, after months of research, I have a fantastic netbook with plenty of power for my needs.
I found it hard to get the exact components in this netbook e.g. does it have bluetooth and what size is the battery, on the Amazon site. The Amazon description and Technical details have now being updated and are much better. Of course my local Currys also stock this netbook now and it's easy to find the details. By the way the price in Curry's is the same as I paid Amazon but I would still go with Amazon as their backup service is reported to be excellent. A process I have not had to use may I add.
Anyway it a nice and compact netbook. A little heavy with the battery as someone else pointed out. Battery life is excellent, 6hr+.
I kept the 1GB ram. It works well as long as you remember to keep the applications closed when not in use. Don't know if the 2gb would make any difference. It can be a little slow booting up but that's ok. This model does NOT have bluetooth (Asus 1015PX does and with 3hrs extra battery is the only difference with this one for £17 extra) and the battery is a 6 cell 48w/hr as now in the product description.
The camera is great with skype and the audio is fine for me.
The keyboard is nice and smooth to the touch and the mouse pad is very responsive and not what I call "jumpy" like my dell laptop. A case for using a seperate mouse.
I am glad I went for the 320Gb HD. The HD is partioned into 2 x 160GB drives. Don't know the reason for that. Maybe 20/30gb for systems and programs and the rest for storage would have been better.
I also bought the Belkin Neoprene Sleeve for Netbooks up to 10.2-Inch Jet/Cabernet
and it suits this netbook. It may not be thick enough to stop damage from a fall but its great for carrying.
Very impressed with the postage time to Ireland and it was well packaged.
I really like Amazon when the price is right. I am a returing cutomer...
Ive searched for months for the right netbook, and finally I thought I'd found it. This model has a powerful dual core cpu, 320gb hard drive, extended battery life, all at a good price. The trouble is, it feels quite heavy for such a small netbook.
I thought all netbooks were supposed to be light and portable, I never thought to check on weight. I was going to buy the Acer netbooks, which I now notice weighs around half-a-kilo less. With hindsight I should have checked the weight and feel of the Asus in a shop, with the battery inserted! (I've since found that wikipedia has a comparison chart of netbooks).
Update: Having used this netbook some more I'm now quite happy with it. The weight isnt such an issue any more, and the long-life battery means I can use it for 5 hours + easily.
I upped the ram to 2gb which makes it run much faster.
I also disabled the 'boot booster' function in the bios as it was stopping me from booting Acronis and Linux etc from a USB stick.
USEFUL TIP: I'd all but given up on this netbook's audio quality as the inbuilt audio/speakers seemed worse than useless and I couldnt hear any youtube videos properly. But today I went into the control panel/'sound' setup and found a slider control on the 'speakers' tab that seemed to boost the volume to acceptable levels.
