Book Description

The 22nd title in best-selling author Steve Cole's brilliantly funny, exciting ASTROSAURS series starring the most intrepid dinosaurs you'll ever meet in space.

About the Author

Born in 1971, Steve Cole spent a happy childhood in rural Bedfordshire being loud and aspiring to amuse. He liked books, and so went to the University of East Anglia to read more of them. Later on he started writing them too, with titles ranging from pre-school poetry to Young Adult thrillers (with more TV and film tie-ins than he cares to admit to along the way). In other careers he has been the editor of Noddy magazine, the voice of a Dalek and an editor of fiction and nonfiction book titles for various publishers.

My children (and me) have been waiting impatiently for this one. They have all the Astrosaurs and the Astrosaurs Academy. Steve Cole have not lost his touch. Astrosaurs:The Castle of Frankensaur is even better than the others. More daring. Tegs, Arx,Iggy & Gipsy are again in trouble but this time, it is even a bigger trouble. A race against time. After investigating a spaceship hijack, they have been put through a MATTA machine (Mix And Transmit Transgomorifying Area machine) by an an evil meat eater dinosaur who took over Dr Frakensaur's (a plant eater, therefore good guy dino) mind, and have been separated from their tails, claws and horns. Which have been put together to become a terrifying weapon.
But, of course, they are the elite of the Astrosaurs and have been in tight spots before...
Well written as usual, full of humour, you also have the usual collectors cards at the beginning and the quizzes and puzzles at the end. So, it is not just a book, it is also an activity book. And of course, a preview of Cows in Action, The Ter-moo-nators (Cows in Action).
About 130 pages, and big font, it is excellent for young readers 7-10. Quite a lot of white and black illustrations too, so, it keep them focused on the story.

I am a fan of the Astrosaurs series, but this one was possibly the worst (I have read possibly all of them to my children). All the reference points to Frankenstein and the undead are for adults. It tries to create 'an atmosphere', but it does this against the plot (there is very little of it). Overall, I would not pick it up again.

We (me/my partner with our 6 year old daughter) have read every Astrosaurs book and thoroughly enjoyed them, and this one doesn't disappoint. Well, dinosaurs, space, a daring stegosaur and his team, devious baddies... What more could you ask for?
