This DVD starts with the first episode and then selects 6 others from what i would assume was a long series. Excellent and suprising in tone too but i would have like to have known what happened directly after the first one and a part 2 to conclude the excellent episode, 'greatest robot in the world,' would have been nice to have. Astro as the other reviewer has said doesn't have it easy. However as an example with the last episode in particular which is rather cruel, he deals with it in a quirky and touching way. Bit random but very likeble and i am interested in seeing more of this anime now.
oh and i love the cityscapes depicted in the this futuristic world. Very retro and they remind me a lot of Nintendo's original Snes F-zero

The hilariously tragic adventures of a naive robot boy..This is like the kinda programmes you watched as kid, only with no happy endings all wrapped up at the end of the show, in fact poor astro really just cant catch a break! Everything that could go wrong does and it only endears you to him more. The animation itself is stunning considering its age. This is absolutely classic anime, whatever kind of anime youre into your collection is not complete, or never really started, without at least this much astro
