Introduced by the author as a very personal perspective, this well formatted and interesting book is packed with information on the cars, company and people that are Aston Martin. He manages this without burying the reader in purely clinical specifications and history that can make some similar publications such heavy going.

The photographs are generally good and selected from a variety of sources and whilst not representing the nadir of those available, certainly add to the pleasure - with many new ones ensuring that this is more than just a recycling of the old favourites. The text is lively and engaging, combining " facts" with (sometimes controversial) personal opinions and even includes the authors own driving impressions of various models. The focus is on the post war cars and it is clear that he favours the DB Series, the book being at its best in these chapters. There is, however, ample to keep fans of the later cars happy with extensive coverage of DBS, V8 (and its various derivatives) Lagonda, "V" cars and DB7. Only limited references are made to A.Ms chequered racing history the majority of text being given over to the road cars. Anoraks will, no doubt, have great fun spotting the small number of minor factual errors in both text and photographs.

Also included, for each of the main Series, are summary Buyers Hints which would be an invaluable reference for anyone seriously considering purchasing one of these cars. It contains, in one place, a greater concentration of practical tips than I have seen before and should certainly help in weeding out the dogs that one inevitably stumbles across in searching out that dream car.

I loved the combination of expert knowledge, obvious enthusiasm for the marque, lively tempo and the absence of blind sentimentality. The author is clearly well versed in the pleasure and the pain of these wonderful motor cars. Overall an easy and highly enjoyable read.

Adam was over the moon to be able to see and learn about the internal workings of his favourite car. He described the manual as both interesting, and easy to follow

I bought this 3rd edition on the assumption that the author had fully updated the book to include all the developments at Aston Martin since my copy of the excellent second edition. Unfortunately, it appears that very little effort has gone into the new edition. There is additional material on the DB9, the DBR9, the V8 Vantage and some mention of the DBS but not nearly enough given the amount of material available. In addition, the chapter on the V cars has been carried over from the 2nd edition with very little editing so it reads as though the car is still in production and then on page 168, the author adds that production has finished, almost as an after thought. Disappointing and difficult to justify buying if you have the 2nd edition. However, if you do not have any previous versions then a definite excellent buy.
