ABC to be Asthma Free is a story about a young child who has asthma called David. David is unable to do many of the things which other children can do because of his asthma. He sees a sign for the summer sports day and makes a wish that he could participate in the race.
David breathes incorrectly; he mouth breathes all the time. He is unaware of how to unblock his nose and correct his breathing. As a result he has constant coughing, wheezing and breathlessness.
One night Argo the wizard appears and whispers the secret of how to breathe correctly to David. Over the coming weeks, David practises exactly what Argo teaches him.
He teaches him how to unblock his nose
Why he should only breathe through his nose at all times
How to practise the Buteyko Breathing exercises
How to avoid pollution using breath hold
David is progressing very well and signs up for the race. He has followed all of Argo's instructions and so has no asthma symptoms.
He runs the race and wins. All the children ask how did he do it?
David answers with "I learned to Always Breathe Correctly".
ABC to be Asthma Free provides a simple and very effective way of explaining correct breathing to a child. It is suitable for all children and involves learning with fun.
The Buteyko method has been proven to result in 70% less symptoms, 90% less need for reliever medication and 50% less need for preventer medication.

This book is superb for teaching any child. I have used this as a teaching manual with my young child robert who has has asthma since a baby. Robert is now six and reads this book all the time. The knowledge imparted is the asthma and Buteyko system of exercises.
It is truly wonderful and I am happy to recommend such a good learning tool for a young child. This method has been far reaching for Robert. His persistent cough is almost gone and he feels much better in himself. The book advises nasal breathing, how to avoid triggers and practise and record a simple exercise called "Steps"
All children who cough, wheeze oe have nasal problems should be taught this.

I have followed the Buteyko system with much interest over the years reading Teresa Hales, Stalmatski and McKeowns books for two of my children. But without doub't this was the one that worked. I found it impossible to teach my child from the adults books. With this book, my child could read the method and learn it by herself. She is now practising it for three weeks. Her steps are at 80 plus and the cough at night has gone. I truly recommend this.

I don't tend to write reviews but this book blew me away. It makes it so simple and so easy for a child to understand and put the Buteyko method into practise.
In fact, my own child read the book by herself over and over. It is very suitable for most children. The words are small, lots of colours and a storyline attracts and retains their attention.
If you have a child with asthma or blocked nose, I would strongly encourage you to read this book. It is remarkable.
